Foley has some of the best BLRW in the Country. For me it's bad since I'm an easy drive to his place
big_smile.png
All of my breeders now came from him...he's starting a list now for chicks but his best started stock won't be for sale until fall. That's when I have been going up bought one of his best pair of last year-my aviator but the roo was killed so my other Foley Roo I had bought a few weeks before that is taking over for now.Jerry has another for me to pick up but not close to what I lost..those are still very rare in BL.I'm getting more chicks from him as well hoping to get lucky twice and get another like I had..darn hawk
I'm getting some from Paul's this spring as well to add some diversity but they allow for single combs where Jerry doesn't so it will mean more culling than ever.We have chicks from 2 other places with mixed reviews...neither place I would get them from again.
Here is my splash roo I'm working with right now.The pic doesn't show it but his lacing goes right to the shank..many bl loose it down low. He's 8 months so still has a lot of growing to do..they are so slow to mature.

Morning all! Boy, it's amazing how much work I get done around here when I don't sit down in front of the computer, LOL! - - I prepped my raised bed gardens for spring, started a bunch of thornless blackberry cuttings, completely reorganized my kitchen to make room for a long prep table for making sausage/pasta/cheese/whatever, and all sorts of other little stuff to get ready for SPRING. - - Hey wait, where did it go? I swear I saw spring around here somewhere.

Dang.

Anyhoo, what did I miss?

Anyone going to the NW GA show in Dalton this weekend? I am waiting for the bantam double-show in March (also in Dalton). That one should be huge.

Holly, so sorry to hear about Roodle, Jr. That stinks. Did the hens get him, or other roos? Have you had any luck with your latest batch of blue eggs?

Okla-DD, thanks for keeping the thread going!

I still want to come up your way on the 12th for the Elkton Auction, weather permitting. I'm a little afraid if I see all your birds, I'll fall into the pigeon world and have a whole new obsession to deal with.

Shelly, congrats on your bunny purchase! Now are you going to learn how to spin the wool and knit your very own angora sweaters?? Hope you got some horseback riding in over the weekend. It was perfect weather for it!

Well, I'm off to do a seed inventory (exciting, I know) so I can plan what I need to buy for the garden. Stay warm, everyone!

Ohh I'm going to have to go to that one...what day is it-tons of GS stuff in March but a bantam show I'm not going to miss...need more quality cochin's and maybe someone there will have some Silkie ladies to go with all of these Roos.I thought about going down this weekend but it doesn't seem big enough to drive down when my list is so short on what I want.
I'm not sure what happened to Roodle Jr he looked fine..other than being dead
sickbyc.gif
he was out with his own group so nothing was bigger or older than he was.Thankfully he was only nice not really up to my expectations as far as replacing my real nice boy. I have learned one thing about chickens...only one-they can be running around one minute and dead the next.
No luck on the blue eggs at all not one started..do have a lone pip today from a cochin egg I stuck in the same day...forgot all about it until I heard chirping. It's going to be next weekend before we have any more hatch..I slipped a little in feeding the bators.I think it had something to do with space issues

Good news is in about 3 weeks my heated brooder should be heated and the tweens get to move out

I'm betting that happens before spring gets here...I want some warm weather

Holly, I have a black and blue mottled cochin pen.....but it is a black roo over 4 black girls and 1 blue girl. I definitely need another pure blue girl to even things out.

Since you like weird roosters, I actually have a very weird rooster. Was supposed to be blue mottled but "something" went haywire.

I don't have any too recent pix showing him other than a blurry one...he looks better type-wise now that he is a little older.

He is the guy on the left here. He is blue and white with RED. Very strange.

Are all your blue mottled boys split? I could use a nice blue mottled cochin boy, along with a blue mottled girl (or two).

He's cute but it's only weird silkies here and off color cochin hens that can go with my frizzle fun bunch where I don't care what hatches. We only have the 2 fun pens here.I only have one blue split roo and he's going to be mostly white with little to no mottling.

Hi All - better turn that heater up winters not over yet. Geez I was just loving not having to deal with frozen water buckets.

I am just loving the bunnies. the doe is still skittish and doesn't want to be bothered. But the Buck is a sweetheart, eats out of my hand and helps me open his cage door to come out and play. Wow I thought just chickens captured my heart - well these big fluffy giant angoras did too. I just can't stop watching them and smiling. They look like animated stuff animals running around.

Jenski - oh you have spring fever bad! me too. I bought all kinds of seeds to start indoors. What are you growing this spring.

Holly - the bator temp/humidity is stable now, but I just don't know if they can recover from 3 hours at 106 temp. Now I'm even more nervous by the fact that I have been depending on the 'digital' for my temp when the little mercury thermometer in the bator as well seems to show two degrees higher then the digital. BUT it's been that way the way time and I KNOW the 8 eggs were looking great 8 hours before the lock down temp tragedy.

you will have fluffy butts before long. When the bators mess up either very high or very low in lockdown I have still had very good hatches. If they looked good at lockdown they should be fine..There is almost always a difference of opinion with 2 thermometers in the bator..1 will be just right and 1 will be a little low or a little high. With that many going to lockdown I would say you had it just right.

Blue Pullet

Blue Roodle

Several black mottled I have 3-4 pair of these and a pet quality pullet-not cross beaked but it doesn't line up perfectly
35655_bantam_cochin_017.jpg

Breaking news 2 Mille Fleur Bantam Cochin pullets are for sale...neither has any white or hardly any but overall nice little birds.I can pair them with one of the split roos but don't have any MF roos for sale right now.Lastly is a beautiful adult black roo with very minimal mottling..he molted most of it out and has golden hackle feathers..he's beautiful I just can't use him.

Is he blue mottled or mottled split to something? i am confuuuuused. but I like him! And her! they would be a cute little pair. Even though i don't need any more.......doesn't mean I don't WANT more though
wink.png

He is blue mottled split to MF..you know my MF roos pretty well
lol.png
The pullet is straight mottled blue. I agree he's a pretty boy not mottled-or at least yet but it's such an interesting pattern and he's such a pretty shade of blue..light but not washed out. I have ideas for him but Megan just bought a show pair of bantam Cochin's and with the MF's only so much time and pen space..lack of pen space to go around.
