Whoa! How's that 1-2 inches working out for everybody??
Seriously though, it was nasty last night, and this morning it's a killing cold outside. 6 F here. Hope everyone got home safely last night, stayed warm, and suffered no critter losses!
My coops stayed above freezing inside last night. What a trick that was! I don't like to let my birds out unless it is over 20 (a baseline I got from speckledhen years ago), but this morning I waited until the sun came up to warm the plastic pen liners and let them out anyway. I stayed out with them and watched them awhile to make sure no one was overly uncomfortable . . . of course, a half hour before I did that, I chucked some 500W shop lamps in the pens, LOL! Don't know if that sort of light is good for their eyes, but they sure like laying down in front of the lamps and thawing when it's really cold! I can see my little roos warming up their combs and wattles, too - - they turn to get each side, and then walk away to munch some corn. The pens are still covered in plastic, so after awhile those shop lamps get things pretty comfortable.
(And just as a safety note, I would never leave lamps that hot with birds if I weren't very close by. . . never inside a coop . . . and never if it weren't this super cold. Those lamps are extremely hot!!)
Okla-DD, I was thinking of you keeping those hands and feet warm this morning! Hope you have some of those hunting hand warmers on today.
Holly, hope you and yours are staying warm, and that you haven't lost power again! I guess you know you aren't going anywhere any time soon, eh! Best put on a nice big pot of something and flip on the TV.
CityGirl . . . ahhhh . . . a nice big Tennessee welcome back this morning, isn't it! How's about that weather!! Did all your birds stay warm? Do you heat your coops?
sunflowerenvy, how did your birds do overnight? I'll bet they won't want to come outside today!
1newegg, did hubby get home safely last night?
SpringCreekFarm, how about you? The Dickson traffic map looked awful last night.
