The Middle Tennessee Thread

Oh my goodness, Emmalynn! That is hysterical! I'm so glad she wasn't hurt. I know my grandmother used to routinely do in kittens that would get up in her engine. Poor things. I'm glad your chickie just held on and made it. Enjoy your surprise afternoon off.

Just an FYI about egg sales in TN. You are required to have a permit to sell eggs for eating in any quantity. It is like you said Holly no big deal. $50 with the inspection, you can use your home kitchen, you do have to have a separate fridge for the eggs with a thermometer showing the temp . Generic egg cartons, farm info and a date and I think that is it. That would be no big deal.

Here is a pdf with more info if you want it http://cpa.utk.edu/pdffiles/cpa154.pdf

If you have more than 5 acres and are NOT in a residential area or the Urban Services district you can have farm animals without a permit. That is the way I read the whole law.

If someone reads this different let me know. My neighbors have chickens, goats, cows, horses, donkeys, Llamas even pigs down the road so I think I am fine. The health department sent me to Codes and Zoning to make sure we were in an agricultural area. I didn't need to talk to codes I know it is agricultural cuz it is greenbelted.

Just a FYI

Lori who was your stow away chicken?

Oh and a little FYI
Over on the ASBC site there is a poll going on about which AOV silkie should we work on getting recognized next. I am sure you all know the Showgirls are my heart. We would appreciate your vote. I would love to get them out of the AOV catagory. So if you are a member on the ASBC please take time and vote for your pick. I will just cross my fingers (beg plead and pray) the showgirls come out on top.

Happen again....absolutely not. If there is another chicken in the parking lot/flower bed/downstairs lobby, I am going to claim ignorance of the whole situation.

Tish,
It was one of the 4H chickens. She was the memorable one because she had a crush on Jose. Followed him everywhere.

The bad news is, the burns she got in the engine compartment were really bad. I bathed her and smeared everything down with burn ointment but some when down into the "meat". I put her in a cat carrier with water and some yogurt. She died just a couple of minutes ago. Breaks my heart that she went thru so much and there was nothing I could do to save her. We don't have an avian vet but I called our regular one. He told me hydrate and something to cover the burns. I don't know if there was anything else I should have done.
