Drop her a line and see what you can work out. I suggested that she charge per bird to process them or do something in trade (like process one bird in exchange for another bird for her). Dunno. There is certainly a need for processing help.

I have them on criagslist so if they don't go soon... 5 I think. I would do it anytime that would be good for you. We don't work a real job, just house remodeling and chickens! I will pm you when we need to do this but something has got to give!

I will pay it forward and show what I learn!!

Although I don't know that I will ever actually process a chicken, I'd like to know how. I remember as a child watching my mother take an axe and chop off a chicken's head. It'd flap around the yard without a head for a few seconds. My dad was a preacher - and people would give us live chickens as gifts. So after the chicken stopped flapping, she'd pluck the feathers - and I don't remember all the rest of it, but I enjoyed eating the fried chicken she'd make. LOL!

I set my first batch of eggs today! I had a few I'd ordered from Meyer, some from a seller on eBay, and then Donna gave me some of hers. I've had the bator running since yesterday morning, and temp is staying steady. Keeping my fingers crossed that everything goes well. And keeping my fingers that we can get the new coop built before these eggs hatch.

I think I read you could put it near a fan. I was thinking even my dehydator might work. I am definitely going to try it. Like you said, cash for feed and you can still use the chicken meat;-)

SIXTEEN!!!! Wow! That's amazing. I have 23 eggs in the incubator. I originally planned on having all 42 spaces filled, but then decided to not try so many on my first attempt. I told my DH that since this is my first time using an incubator, I don't anticipate more than a 50% hatch - and, of course, half of them will probably be roos that we'll re-home. So we're looking at only adding about 5 or 6 new pullets to our flock. That's my chicken math at work. Not sure what I'll do if all 23 hatch!

Two of my four-week old Araucanas started doing the dominance dance today. It was really funny watching such little birds trying to look so tough! I didn't realize they started that so young.

Donna - looks like we'll both be busy getting more coop space built!
