cuz you promised me some hatching eggs.... I have thought about it... you know I have.... but I just don't have room till these pens are done. Hubby has a cold for the 3rd time since we started and now he can't talk (kinda like that

A neighbor raises lemon cuckoo orpingtons. When he told me this morning that he had hatching eggs - you can guess what I did. Since I had set some eggs in the bator yesterday, I thought, "Well, I have 11 empty spaces in the bator, so why not?" Now I have only 1 empty space. Between what Donna is hatching for me - and what I'm hatching, I'll be overrun with chicks the week after Thanksgiving. I'll be begging all of you to take some.

So - are there legal requirements for shipping chicks? Like certificates of health or something like that? Come the first of December, I'll be doing my best to sell some of the chicks - IF I have good hatches.

What is that like 73 eggs!!!! and you picked on me when I set JUST 40!

Short answer Yes! NPIP cert req. dif states have different rule for incoming birds... would think a lot harder to ship live birds.

K & J-Just hunt me down..it may result in stalking methods but I am at home every once in awhile

Carol-legally you can't ship unless you are npip but lots of people do anyway...then there are State laws so strict you can't ship like VA for instance.Shipping in Dec is risky even overnight they don't guarantee them any longer for over night and they will not refund the money if it takes longer..it's about 3 days before they are considered late.

Donna-no none of the BR pullets..as luck has it I only have a couple.I have a few Clean legged Cuckoo,Heritage RIR a FBCM or two-black copper not sure yet about any blue copper.I should have eggs by early Spring.I'm liking this roo a lot so far.

I'm in such trouble! My husband is okay with my bator full. He doesn't know about the ones you're hatching for me. But, really - several breeders sent extras - lots of extras. I ordered 6 eggs from one - and he sent 16! I have a little less than 3 weeks to get everything figured out. And chicks are so little the first couple weeks, I actually have over a month before I really have to deal with it. I've told my husband that I won't have any trouble selling the extras.

And when I get the ones you're hatching, I'll just slip them into the brooder pen in the new coop - and he'll probably not even notice them for awhile.

So with the regulations about shipping - I'll just stick with Craigs List and try to find local people to buy the extra chicks. I might look into getting NPIP certified later, though.

I'll probably have way too many Araucanas, especially - although they're supposed to be difficult to hatch so there's no telling what I'll end up with. So if anybody wants some true Araucanas, let me know.

So are ya'll gonna brood these chicks indoors? I'm considering hatching some from these anconas, but I don't want em in the house.

not a y'all thing....

But I have tons still in my shop and more coming for the New Years day hatch... the question is do I hatch some of mine too????? If I don't get these pens done I will have to wait to do my test hatches. But that is all ok too.

I built some greet pens yesterday and today for the shop to house the guys. It was quick and free! They are even easy to take apart if I need to store them and can put them together to make BIG pens or even divide them to make smaller ones. WHY DIDN'T I COME UP WITH THESE SOONER!!

Tried the TSC in AC today they had never heard of Anti pick either

guess it will be an Edwards thing.

FOUND MY FEATHER PICKER! I had one runt that was a possible cross of the Yokahoma and NH and it was HIM! He is no more since he started getting the Lav Splits from Connie.

Killed one, caused another sever pain, and was working on another today, actually several. He had to go. Not worth it with a roo that was a mutt anyway.

That was the first time I felt OK about a cull. It would have been eventually so no since in feeding him for a small bird.

Anne here is a link to the pics I took yesterday and I did get some of the Buffs for you, and the whites for Cathy.

I am a bit disappointed in the number of exhibitors that did not show up at all! Lots of empty cages. This is usually a pretty good show with lots of silkies. I wonder why so many did not show up?
There were 3 others there with Showgirls and of course my girls took Best Showgirls and Reserve Showgirl so that is all that really mattered to me. My blue silkies did great but I was surprised my black silkies did not place higher. That black silkie hen of Kathy B's took best feather leg over Jacks white which kinda blew both (Jack and I) our minds. I was hoping to see Jack take the show with his girl. I know he was disappointed and I was for him.
