Had to do some chicken chasing today sort of. I had and EE roo in a pen after some fights... and now he has 11 young pullets (near POL) and he is going nuts!!!! ALL the girls hide in the coop on the roosts one poor little BR was out and hiding. I was afraid she was stuck so we got her out... HERE HE COMES.... poor girls was wedged between Rooster pens and a Post she could not move and I couldn't get her out.... Major move to get her out TWICE. I put her on the roost the last time I hope she stayed and he didn't pull anyone else down.

My old BR hens used to pick on him maybe that is why he is after her so bad! He is a BIG boy now.

The birthday fairy brought me a chicken catching net for my birthday last week.

What a chicken day! First we found a giant egg... are you ready for this.... 3.1 oz

That girl needs some hemorrhoid cream. We also got 11 eggs.

One of my D'uccle is injured nothing obvious but she is having trouble walking. We got some food and water in her then let her go back with her peeps. If she is in the same spot in the morning I will put her so that food and water are just a slight move away.

Then as I was doing my final look for eggs, My 6 week olds had torn all the feathers out of one of the New Hampshire's. Pitiful!!!! Just a bloody mess. I put triple antibiotic ointment all over her tail. She did not seem to be bleeding much after we took her out. She is in a pen by her self. Poor thing.... I have had several instances before but not this bad.

Sorry about your D'uccle and NH. Hope tomorrow they're both feeling much better.

I had a chicken day, too. I worked on making nipple waterers and those automatic feeders I saw at your place the other day, Donna. I couldn't get the @#@!# nipples to screw into the holes I drilled. Got to enlist a little help from my husband.

Donna-It's Merecks season so keep an eye on her.
Before someone tells me they can get it any time I mean when it's wet and the wild birds come in with much higher numbers...around here Spring and now you will see a major rise of Merecks

Congrats on the egg-We have a few hens that would do the 3 ounce eggs nearly every day for her first year and very seldom would it be a double yolker.Now she's almost 3 she just lays normal xl eggs at least 5 days a week-going to miss her when she goes to chicken retirement
Grad some Anti pick lotion for your plucked baby..it works much better than the antibiotic creams..it will heal them up and keep the others from picking on them more...it has tea tree oil and a bunch of other real good stuff that no bird wants to get near.

We had 15 buns this morning 1 still born so now 14 baby buns and still waiting on a few more

Problems with walking balance etc are usually the first signs most people notice when it shows up.Pretty much every chicken has been exposed to it if they go outside at all but only a small number will ever get it..or that is your hope.There is nothing you can really do to prevent it so just keep them as healthy as you can to help them fight off everything better.Right now we have hundreds of wild birds living with the chickens eating their food and it makes me so nervous dragging who knows what in with them...Every day I'm finding them stuck in the feeders

and man do tiny birds eat lots of food...they also drag in those creepy crawlies

On a more human note..tonight I was trying to buy some Amodium AD liquid...one of the orphan buns is sick and the stores were sold out...had to try 3 places so I'm thinking there is something going around none of us want to get
