The Middle Tennessee Thread

City Girl- puppies will be here until Feb for some and March for others. Just depends on whether the new owner wants them to spend extra time with the goats.
The black and brown spotted is a boy. He is my new registered Nubian buck for next year. Emma named him Fudge. His spots were mahogany colored and he is lightening up as he matures. I was really hoping he was going to stay really dark.
Donna did get the AMs from me, the black pair from you, a lav roo I got from Connie and a black hen I hatched from Daks eggs.
Loved the pics by the way.
Emma wanted me to tell you thank you yet again. The buff we got from you went 1st, BV, BB, champion featherleg, best bantam and then best of show.

Donna-I saw that smiley face. Does that mean your are pleased with your flock additions?

Country Punk- Whomever told you that splash were worth nothing is an idiot. They are by far my favorite and you can't get lots of blue without them. Where does this person think consistent blue hatches come from? A splash with a black=100%

I'm only referring to BLRW here...Splash isn't going to be recognized as there are no real correct splash out there as far as breed standard and color go.The splash 99% of the time loose the lacing on the hackles which will be a dq at every show.Maybe one day when they are correct it will happen but as long as people keep breeding hatchery stock which don't meet any standard and not even the right shape it will take longer to get any BLRW accepted...they are not even accepted as of yet.Yes,splash to black gets blue and if your only after blue that's fine but if your after the blue that will be the breed standard you will get that from blue to blue breeding much faster as it's more consistant in shading than the splash give.
Splash is one of my favorite colors in any breed I'm not knocking them just why blrw breeders don't like to use them

Most people I know who breed BlRW are foley bred, or they are ..well...someone else. But ai cant remember. Either way.
I uneerstand about the hatchery birds being bred, expecting a perfect wyandotte to pop out. I did not know they loose the color in their hackles.

Don't forget though Jerry hatches hundreds and keeps less than 10 to use for breeding.I go right to him to buy chicks and from 50 chicks I kept 1 to use. That is how hard this color is to get close and why they are not getting to be accepted. If you get correct type the lacing is off or good lacing and bad type.Near to impossible to get both on the same bird.
You probably didn't know about the splash hackles since most splash don't have the laced hackles the look they have is what you expect to see. Now,around our woods the splash sell better than the blue because of the contrast in color. It can be hard to see the blue against Burgundy but that light color pops. Thankfully the Partridge only come in one color it "almost" seems too easy with them.
But even a poor colored blrw is still beautiful

Donna- it is so fun to know that little bits of my farm are scattered about with other fun people.

Those black AMs are such fat, fluffy girls. I hope they do well for you. Be forewarned that this line tends to be really broody and that they are for the most part mean broodies. Mine have never been terribly successful as mothers so I generally try to steal the chicks once they hatch.
With the new splash roo in that pen I won't get black chicks this next season. It'll all be blue and splash. Hopefully lots and lots of splash!!

Lori- Tell Emma that she ROCKS! She is the one getting that hen ready to show and then doing the showing. I can't take any credit at all. I was blessed to get starter chicks from Jack and have pretty much been coasting on his work.

I'm so glad that Emma is loving the showing and is being successful. It makes my heart happy!
I'm still digging your spotty goat, be it boy or girl. Hopefully since he is the herd "roo", you 'll get lots of spotty babies from him. He's adorable!!! Can't wait to meet him and play with all your smoochy puppies.

Gotta run to work. Hopefully the dreary fog will lift and the day will get pretty.

Holly.... check your PMs or call me. Tomorrow will work I think if it is still good for you.

KJ - any word on eggs yet? No biggie if not.

Donna thanks for asking Dr. Walker (local vet) has been coming by to take care of the chickens and dogs for me. I am feeling some better just hate being stuck in the house. My Dr. says I can't be outside in this cold and wet.
