Anne, wanted to update you on the eggs you gave us! :) Today is day 14....I candled them today for the second time. I attempted at 10 days but honestly have no idea what I'm looking for, having never done this. So I just looked at each of them and paid attention to detail. Today I looked again, looking for changes - I could actually SEE a chick moving around in one!! Two had no changes at all and were perfectly clear, so I decided to be bold (LOL) and remove them. I took them outside and cracked them, and sure enough there was absolutely nothing going on in them...so I did a little happy dance, I got it right. :) She's on 10 now. Like I said, I could see very clear movement in one. Another six of them looked right - dark, and more 'full' than they did four days ago. The other three were the darker shelled, and I'm just not certain what I was seeing. Next Wednesday is 20 days....I'm getting excited! If we even get one I'll be thrilled....and dh wants to get an incubator now. Lol!!

Hello all! Just checking in to see how everyone is doing. The updated forum is still a bit challenging for me to jump on when I am in a hurry, but I do think of you all often and hope you're all doing OK! Keep on chickening!

More buns this afternoon...3 more and a few more to go.Plus,I got a new bun today which I didn't need but sure is cute.

I'm so excited! I can't wait to see what hatches. You have the first of the splash x barred rock EEs. I am terribly curious to see what they turn into. I haven't done an EE hatch yet for this season. You are my test hatcher! :)

A warning on the cracking of incubated eggs- I used to routinely open unhatched eggs to see what had gone wrong. That ended the day I had one explode all over me. It was the foulest (no pun inteded), nastiest smell ever. Ugg.

Now I put them in a ziplock and crack them.

It's really hard to see into those darker shelled eggs. I usually try to gauge it by the air cell. You usually can see changes in that.

You TOTALLY need an incubator. It is loads of fun. Plus you get to see them hatching in a bator. Under the hen you just magically have chicks appear one day. How funny that your DH wants the incubator.

Keep us posted on developments. You know we will want pictures, so get that camera ready!

South Dakptan, No this is my first order with Sandhill. Be sure and order their catalog. They have a lot of cool breeds. It was the only place I could find to get just a few of the red polish and mille fleure leghorns and the only hatchery to have Icelandics. I just ordered a couple of those to get a different blood line to go with mine.

Holly the LH doe Cpunk and I have with nine is about the size of a small mini lop. A little big but she is a good looking single mane so I told him that with the small buck he has it would make a good pair. Its usually best to have the doe a little bigger on the small breeds. How big are your min rex. Its hard to find the good small ones up here. Most are not pure minis. I think it was on Clars page I saw someone talking about a show in Lenore? Are you going to it? Wondering how big it will be. That would be an overnite trip for me but I have never been to a rabbit show and would like to see one.
