The Middle Tennessee Thread

So I don't wanna jinx myself, but my next hatch is looking good. I've got 8 wellies looking good and a couple questionables, as well as close to 2 doz RIR. All 3 turkeys have an air cell, but they will be a week behind the chicks.

Hi everyone! Since the kids had a four day weekend from school we took them down to Mardi Gras - what a ball! My MIL lives on the coast in Mississippi, so we didn't go into NO, but hit a bunch of parades and nearly needed an extra car to bring all of the beads back. My neighbor was looking in on the chickens for me and texting me updates. When we left Friday morning six had hatched...by Saturday morning there were 8 running around, and mama had pushed the last two eggs out of the nest so I told her to chuck them. It KILLED me to be away while it was going on. When we got home last night the first thing I did was run to the back yard to check on everyone....I think my hen is going to be a fabulous mama. Chicks look great and are soooo cute - I'll get some pics today.

And now we need recs for an incubator. Not that we have time to do anything more than we've already got going on, but you know. I guess it keeps us young, right? Lol!!

lemuckley- I use a genesis Hovabator 1588 and love it. It isn't terribly expensive compared to some of the others and it works great. I started with a 1602 and wasn't terribly impressed. If you plan on doing a decent amount of hatching it's worth it to go ahead and get the 1588. I've been hatching with mine for a couple of years and it's going strong. I think I ordered it direct from GQF online.

If I had a zillion dollars I would consider getting a cabinet unit. :)

My baby chicks will be arriving from Meyers Hatchery in the next few days can't hardly wait .

Donna,
Have you put the black boy in with the girls?

Anne,
The buff from the last hatch died. Failed to thrive and the others are doing fine. Just my luck.
I do have buffs from another breeder in the bator so time will tell. Put up a pic of yours. I would love to see them.

Everyone- Have a white roo, blue roo, and black roo that need homes. They are all silkies. Blue and black show some leakage. If not interested in them as pets/breeders....chicken soup is always an option. According to research it cures everything. LOL! Got to love google.

Why not just build a cabinet bator? There fairly easy to do and there are lots of plans on here to make one.

I can help with RIR, Barred Rocks and probably Gold and Silver laced Wyandottes. But They are in the bator now except the SLW and GLW those I would have to get. I don't know if I can sex them at 5 weeks though.... I have four Production Red Pullets near POL I might would part with. 1 hatched in September and the other 3 in October.

I can help with ameraucanas and easter eggers. I'm setting another round this weekend! :)
My ameraucanas are blue and splash. My EEs will be both regular EEs and olive eggers.
