The Middle Tennessee Thread

I will be putting my eggs in lock down tonight. Can't wait to see what I end up with. I'm moving all my juvies around today and making room for the newbies.
I have four eggs from the RIR flock I bought from Donna, and 11 of CarolJ's SFH. So now I'll be watching my webcam instead of working tomorrow.

When are yours due to hatch? Did you ever candle them?
Can't wait to see what you get from the SFH eggs. I've got a bunch of SFH eggs in my incubator, too - due to hatch a week from now.

Anybody interested in a true Araucana roo? I had him on Craigslist under "free stuff" briefly - but for some reason the post was flagged and deleted. I've gone over all the TOS and rules for CL, and I have no idea why the post was flagged. I've sold and given away lots of chickens via CL and have never had any trouble before. Anyway - I decided to forget CL for now and rehome him via other avenues. He's gorgeous - but I just don't need him. Here's a pic. In addition to the SFH eggs in the incubator, I've got a bunch of EE eggs in there, too, that are growing well - and he was the only roo in that pen. So he's doing a good job of taking care of business. If you want him - send me a PM.

Quote: Somebody is just doing that based on no animals, but farm animals are ok. Try putting him under the Farm section for free. That is where I put my roos.

Can't wait to take my roos to the roo guy tomorrow. They sure do eat a LOT of food.

I usually take my roos or culls to an auction. But im afraid for diseases...

I have about 20 EEs 10 BCM and 10 buff sussex eggs due to hatch thursday. And 12 polish under a broody due any day.

Got 9 more polish eggs in the bator due later on this month. Yay for chicks!

Anyone selling any eggs ? Or have an abundance?:p

My husband decided to build some breeding pens for my Legbars, SFHs and Rhodebars. He was on the bulldozer clearing a place for the pens when he ran over an underground yellow jacket nest - thousands swarmed him! They were viscious! He slammed the dozer into neutral, jumped off - stripping off his shirt as he ran since they were covering his shirt. He got in the house and jumped in the shower. Amazingly, only 7 got into the house with him. We know exactly how many because we had to hunt them down and kill them.

He had over 30 stings. He is a beekeeper with 3 beehives on another part of the farm - and he's accustomed to working with them without even wearing netting. However, the yellow jackets were mad. He was okay - we dosed him with benedryl and advil - and put cortizone cream on the stings. Then he put on the full beekeeper outift (hat, netting, gloves, etc.) and went back out to move the dozer and turn it off. He felt itchy and sore last night and didn't sleep much - but today he seems fine. Scary stuff, though!

I sure do feel bad for your DH. I have also had my share of yellow jackets. When I Was young I shot an arrow into a nest of them. I didn't realize it till I got over there to get my arrow and they started getting me. The itching was maddening!

Years ago my hubby and son where clearing the fence line that had not been cleared for 30+ years and they cut a tree that was a nest. They lit in on my son and he took off his shirt too (blue or purple shirt) I don't think he got stung much if any. But his shirt was full of stingers. Very unnerving. They burned them out so they could work. It was a nest 5 ft deep and about that wide too. HUGE nest.
