Ok after talking to Donna, whom I got the chicks from. She thinks its from a sbl . So it looks like my grandsons chicken was the first to lay. Breakfast for him in the morning, its just his size to since he's only 1.

That is a SBEL (super blue egg layer WL x Ams) but my first egg was a double yolker LOL. You will figure it out soon enough.

I have 3 WL pullets I will give him... they lay an egg with a chalky yellow yolk. I read that there is some gene they can get if they have white legs that will cause that. Mine have white legs

and white yolks too

their eggs don't hatch either.

Had something interesting happen today. I put an ad on Craigslist to give away some EE cockerels that I had. I had a bunch of responses - and I met a guy this afternoon to give them to him. A couple hours after he got the chickens, he emailed me asking. "Are these roosters?"

WHAT??? The title of the ad was "4 Easter Egger Cockerels - Free" - and I wrote in the ad that I was getting rid of them because I didn't need any more roosters. He wrote back that he just saw they were EEs - didn't realize they were roosters. I offered to take them back - don't know if he'll take me up on it or not. I had no idea that I needed to clarify that cockerels are males.

I told my husband from now on if the chickens are male, I'm going to call them ROOSTERS no matter how old they are.

LOL! Never heard that before - I love it!

I am down 2 less roos. I did the deed. It wasn't to bad. Sharp hatchet and knife. Their brining now. Roughly 30 minutes for 2 birds. It sure is quiet here now.

Good for you!

I wish I had the gumption to process my extra roos. But I don't - so I give them away,

I've got three pretty good size AM roos that someone can have if they will eat them. I also have two mostly grown silkie boys that someone can process. I just need them out of my pens. They are starting to bother the girls.
