When I move out I want to breed Angora rabbits for wool, Llamas, Goats, Pigs, Horses, Chickens of course, and pigeons. Maybe more.. I'd like to rescue most of my animals, too.

Hi everyone!
I am new to BYC & I am a soon to be mom of 2 ducklings so I’m here to soak up all of the information I can to provide them the best life. And I am super excited to be apart of a fellow millennial community.
I am still trying to decide which duck breed would be best for me. I live in Upstate NY so I need a winter Hardy duck.
I am open to suggestions of what breed of duck you think would be best for the winters of Upstate? Oh, they are going to be pets I forgot to mention that.
Thanks.

Most duck breeds are really resistant to cold! Do you want ducks that will make it through the winter comfortably, or ducks who will continue to lay through the winter?

My main concern is to just have my ducks be comfortable in the winter. I am building a duck coop currently & going to be insulating it for the winters!

They'll be ok! The most cold hardy ducks Are Welsh Harlequins Orpingtons, Khaki Campbells, Pekins, Muscovys,Apple yards, Cayugas, Rouens, Mallards.. Bascially all of them LOL! All of these breeds are hardy enough that they'll be fine in the summer, and in the winter, and they'll lay all through the year.

Thank you for providing me with that information. I am going to look into those duck breeds!
I have another question ( so sorry!! ) Do y’all have any tips on raising 2-3 week old ducklings?
Can I raise them in their duck house in a tube with a heat lamp? Or should they be inside my house?
