Curious what brought everyone to byc or what made you start like a farm life
My in-laws started a new flock of chickens and I quickly became fascinated, if not infatuated with them. My wife's family has a lot of experience with chickens. We incubated a batch last year and we raised them for about a month before sending them off to the farm with the in-laws. Since then I have really wanted my own. My wife wants no part in raising chickens anymore because she also knows the heart break of it, but she is willing to let me have a go at it which I appreciate tremendously. Now I just have to wait until June for my order to get here. 😤

In general ducks do really well In the winter. I like the feather patterns but I don't know how I feel about that face... I think i'd get Acondas and Harlequins
I don't know much about domestic duck breeds but I am a huge fan of wild ducks and look how many of them swim around in near freezing water like it is nothing. I am sure as long as they don't have a constant cold breeze on them then they are insulated enough to stay warm in the winter.

I moved to my boyfriends hometown last year around this time for his career and we are in a very rural area in Upstate New York living with his parents. I have ALWAYS wanted ducks but living in the city in FL that never happened, but luckily my bf family has 50 acres & a pond so I decided why not have a few pet ducks in the backyard so I can love on them & they can help fertilize our gardens & provide us with eggs! 😅
