Me neither. I would never let my chickens near a pool or any tub big enough for them to possibly drown in. Chickens. Can't. Swim. People should stop putting them in danger because they think it's "cute".
Also, I just remembered. That guy almost lost a third chicken in his pool. He only just managed to save him in time. Very irresponsible if you ask me.
Yeah. I freak out when I see my chickens near water. Including buckets which I don't leave in the runs. I also have 2 month old chicks running around so I really wouldn't risk that

Do they drown because the sides are not chicken friendly?
I've raised hundreds of chickens around a pond and never had one drown that I know of.

Like yes I do sometimes give my chickens a bath (broody breaker or when infested with mites) but only sometimes and when it's needed.

He didn't put anything in the pool to help them get out. The only way out was the stairs, if the chicken was lucky enough to fall in there. If not, then there was no way out.
Also, one of the chickens that drowned was a chick, which was only about 2 weeks old.

.... It's a truly awful sight when you find a chicken that drowned

We have one of those big plastic covers over our pool. No chicken drowned while it wasn't there. Then we installed it there and the Silkie managed to squeeze under the rubber. RIP George

We always lose birds to the water troughs for the large animals. Not anything we can really do though that won't prevent the animals from drinking
We have a regular 8" x 16" cement blocks on different levels in the tanks so they can at least get on those to prevent drowning. It works very well as we have not had any drowning in the stock tanks..
