No I do not show. I have shown at various times and once upon a time that was all I raised for.Do you keep the majority of the chicks you hatch, or just keep the best ones? Do you show your birds?
Depends what I hatch and how many.
Not too long ago id hatch 1,000 chicks a year and get rid of the majority.
Then it was like the show mentality of hatch as many as possible and keep only the best of the best.
I care about the standard because whats the point of working with a breed if it isn't recognised when someone sees it. I just ain't as crazy about perfection any more.
This year I started with less breeders then other years and really wanted to limit how many I hatched. I'll end up probably keeping 50% to 75% of them IDK. Next year I'll see what I have and probably cull quite a few more. I don't believe in the 10% rule so depends what I end up with.
If tbe majority are nice I'll keep most. If a lot aren't what I think arent good enough a lot will go.
My focus now is get more varieties and build numbers. When I get the numbers up I will fill harder.
