The Moonshiner's Leghorns

Do you keep the majority of the chicks you hatch, or just keep the best ones? Do you show your birds?
No I do not show. I have shown at various times and once upon a time that was all I raised for.
Depends what I hatch and how many.
Not too long ago id hatch 1,000 chicks a year and get rid of the majority.
Then it was like the show mentality of hatch as many as possible and keep only the best of the best.
I care about the standard because whats the point of working with a breed if it isn't recognised when someone sees it. I just ain't as crazy about perfection any more.
This year I started with less breeders then other years and really wanted to limit how many I hatched. I'll end up probably keeping 50% to 75% of them IDK. Next year I'll see what I have and probably cull quite a few more. I don't believe in the 10% rule so depends what I end up with.
If tbe majority are nice I'll keep most. If a lot aren't what I think arent good enough a lot will go.
My focus now is get more varieties and build numbers. When I get the numbers up I will fill harder.

Idk what you think youre seeing?
If your thinking theyre from the birds I got from ChicKat. Unfortunately they are not.
Ive had terrible luck getting any eggs from those.
That may change in the near future. Haven't said much because I don't want to jinx it.
That's exactly what I was thinking.

Visit my party threads. We pee our pants weekly.
I'm scared to. I'm shy.
I know you. And then this one ( @Overo Mare ) is a hand full so the whole bunch there may just be too much.
Also id have to get a pic of something. I'm not much of a baker or candlestick maker.
My creativity is pretty limited to making these damn varieties of leghorns and writing hillbilly erotica.

Thank you. And thanks for checking out my thread.
Ya its crazy that leghorns are so well known but most have no idea they come in anything except white and some know about the browns.
I was the same way. Now I'm trying to see just how many colors I can make them.

@Amer or anyone else.
Any ideas on this one?
Whats interesting is she isn't from silver based birds.
I crossed a buff (srandard buff genetics) with a red Mille Fleur. Pattern looks like a speckled sussex.
Pretty standard genetics I believe except I'm unsure what she is at the e locus.
I then crossed two siblings from above pair. So parents and grandparents are gold based for sure.

In the front she looks like Columbian. I’m stumped, she really looks silver.
She’s probably wheaten based, but could be ewhe+
It’s weird because she’s white in the front and then almost duckwing in the back.
Is it possible that the buff carries mottling? Could this be what the heterozygous mottling expression sometimes looks like in chicks?
I’d be interested to see what she looks like as an adult.
