The Moonshiner's Leghorns

It rained all night last night and all day today. I had to go grocery shopping after work this morning and got drenched. Then went to the doctor with my husband (bad back/neck) so I looked like a drowned rat I'm sure.
You must get our weather after it leaves us. Was chances of rain all day yesterday. It only rained a few times and wasn't bad.
Chance of rain today and it's misting now. High winds and torrential rain expected overnight and into the morning. Rain chances then continue throughout the day.
I think it's supposed to be clear for a few days after that. Lots of rain this week things are starting to be a muddy mess and I expect it's going to be really bad after the overnight storms.

I'm not crazy about mine. It is probably my least favorite incubator. I use it as a hatcher when I have the two GQF Genesis hatchers maxed out but I do like that I can see the chicks hatching pretty well though.
Mine does give a good view and it is roomier then a lot. Especially head room. Also like that it has a humidity display which several of my others do not.
What I don't like is its not the easiest to clean and I don't like the turner motor in the bottom. Be nice if I could let the bottom submerse and let soak.

He looks like a good solid bird and his color is beautiful! Brown Leghorns are certainly one of my favorite Leghorn varieties. You have some nice looking birds. I love them all! I wish I had room for more colors. 😩
Lol. Those are my ugly ones.
Might as well move on to the old hags, I mean hens next.
End of breeding season so I'm sure they're looking homely.
Yesterday in the pullet pen there were 6 buff pullets on the roosts. No other varieties so I took like 4 pics to show you. Of course they all turned out so dark you could see what was in them.
That's how my pic taking goes.

So let me ask it this way. If a Leghorn has a pea comb, might it lay blue eggs?
Pea comb and the blue shell genes are linked but that link can be broken with select breeding.
Like said there are breeds like brahmas with pea combs that don't have the blue egg genes. Also breeds like legbars that have blue egg genes but not pea combs.
Pea comb is dominant to single combs and blue shells are dominant to non blue shells.
So ya if you breed something pure for both like an Ameraucana to a leghorn all offspring will have pea combs (probably wonky because of both genes) and will lay blue eggs. Again with both genes they may be a lighter blue color.
When you start breeding those mixed offspring to other birds that don't have pea combs or the blue egg genes that's when you'll get some variety. Pea combs and no pea combs. Blue or green eggs or not blue or green.
With a bird that has both pea comb gene and blue shell gene but also other comb and shell genes that link between them comes into play.
Where one gene goes the other usually follows. So if you produce a pea comb chick it's a good chance it also has the blue egg gene.
Someone on here told me it's like a 90 something % chance they will go together. Like a 4 or 6% chance one will be passed on without the other.
So yes the link can be broken but yes with mixed birds that aren't being selectively bred to break the link there's a high chance a pea comb bird will have the blue egg gene.

Um. Moony, if you are using your phone, it should have a "flash" feature.
