Wifezilla, I have tried twice to get through Atlas Shrugged and just couldn't finish. Maybe I will try again.

The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand.

But the first line of the first chapter goes, "Howard Roark laughed. He stood naked on the edge of a cliff"............so when reading aloud to the kids, we never got past that first line.

I've heard there's a resurgence of Ayn Rand fans. I never got through any of her others, but I believe this one changed my ability to understand each individual person's ability to think for themselves.

deb, you have to skip most of the speech. LOL

Seriously. She tries to beat you over the head with a basic concept. I read the beginning of the speech and then skimmed over it until the story started again.

If Atlas Shrugged is too much of a pain, just read Anthem. It's short. You can even read it online for free

I got like that the first time I tried the Ring series, when the hobbit was

rudely interrupted by the wizard and his entourage, it was just too much. But it turns out I was pregnant at the time, and after my 3rd baby was big enough to sit in a lap and hear a story The Hobbit read just fine to me. Maybe I was just too stressed out for that story the first time I read it? What do you think?

I'm reading The Plains of Passage from the Earth's Children series right now. I read Clan of the Cave Bear when it first came out. Recently, one of my friends read the series and let me borrow the books.

Tolkien has been a major influence on my life. I first read Lord of the Rings in the mid 70's as a teen and once every year or two since. I have over 9 linear feet of bookshelf space devoted to books by or about Tolkien.

Mists of Avalon

At a Journal Workshop by Ira Progoff

Several books written by Ram Dass

Dale-Ann

Oh yeah and from when I was 6 - Country Bunny and the Little Gold Shoes - Dubose Heyward It was read to me once when and I remembered the story, but not the title for about 20 years and then came across it one easter at my local book store. I buy a copy of it for every new baby girl in my life.
