Not silly at all! Have you read Ingals take on her husband's childhood, Farmer Boy? I thought that was an amazing account of childhood on a 19th century farm.
Charles Dickens had an influence on me. He spoke out against injustices in his time period while still displaying a sense of humor. Most people wouldn't list him as one of their literary influences.
Have you read West From Home? It is the last original "Little House" book by American author Laura Ingalls Wilder. It consists of Wilder's letters to her husband Almanzo Wilder during her visit to their daughter Rose Wilder Lane in San Francisco in 1915. It is extremely interesting.
I love to read but I don't think any one book has influenced my life greatly. Still love My Side of the Mountain and Julie of the Wolves, but I don't live alone in the woods with animals, I live in the 'burbs with my family. A Wrinkle in Time might have been pretty influential when I was young. It's message that being smart and different is okay was one that I liked.

I read The Mists of Avalon when I was a young woman.
I re-read it when getting out of a relationship with a husband who had the hero complex... when he realized I wasn't going to be his eternal damsil in distress things soured.

That one I just had to look up and am certainly interested in reading! Always love books about the modernization and industrialization on a foodsource and how much it is not only changed but sadly gone seriously downhill.
ETA: After looking through the thread I see that others have mentioned it as well. It really is a fantastic book that has had a lot to do with the food choices I am now making for my family.
