-The Mythics RP-

(I'll reply later when I get a chance!)
Her head she draped to rest against her shoulder, pivoting on a heel to face the other two— that jay-mad Harpy and the smith. They both reeked of fear. Of violence. “You remember no blood is to be spilled on these decks, yes?”
(On a side note...

*Randomly inserts Captain Aramis Cavalier here*

"Yes, Capt'in," he bowed his head like she was a queen and he was a prince. "Here, my lad," he thrust his hand out to the poor soul quivering on the deck, "let me help you."
Gecko heisatated before slowly setting his trembling hand in Aramis'
"There, there," Aramis lifted him to his feet. "All good?" He laid both hands on Gecko's shoulders. Gecko glanced at the others and nodded his head.
"Bonne!" Aramis pulled Gecko close, leaning to his ear. "Now," he whispered for only Gecko to hear, "let me assure you: any blood I spill, I'll be sure to poor it in the sea, not on the deck, as our captain there wouldn't have it any other way, comprendre?"
Aramis leaned back, staring into Gecko's eyes. Gecko's eyes rolled back and he fell to the deck like a dead man.
"Aye, weak fella, is he not?" Aramis stepped back, shaking the Harpy's dirt from his hands.

*End of random thought that landed in my mind. Removes Aramis from the story once again and heads to do what one should be doing.* )

Galen flinched and turned to face the angry female.
He couldn’t stop his feathers from bristling in agitation. Every single instinct his father had hammered into his brain was begging to break free.
“I swear,” he mumbled under his breath, “if I don’t get a break…”
He started towards Ember.
“Well, if she’s going to shoot me she’d better hurry up and do it.”
She waited almost motionless, flaming red eyes tracking him unwavering as he approached.
Jintao had gripped the situation with a quick and dangerous command, one that had set every crewmate nearby into a resigned, almost uneasy silence. Ember's jaw was set clenched at the realization she was actually impressed.
But no matter. She could note what worked, remember what didn't. If Jintao had even a week's more experience at sea than her, it was experience worth shadowing- for now. She'd surpass him when the time came.
Galen stopped before her, his wings and expression coated with a heavy frustration, an anxious resignation.
"Explain."
Her voice was low, void of emotion, and spoken soft enough for no prying ears to hear.

Galen dug at his fingertips with his thumbnail and let his chest rise and fall for a few moments.

____________

“Explain.”
His father’s voice was low and dangerous.
If he could say anything to stop the blows he would have but he couldn’t through his puffy, tear choked throat.
The large, dark form, outlined in flickering fire light strode toward him and wrenched him from the corner.
“I couldn’t!” Galen managed to gasp.
“Couldn’t?” Father leaned down close to his face. He could feel his hot rancid breath. “My son-” he spat, “‘COULDN’T’ do as ee’s told.”
He tossed his child back into the corner like some discarded piece of rubbish.
Galen felt the air leave his lungs as his body hit the hard wood and stone.
His lip was bleeding and he quickly wiped the small trickle of crimson away.
Father chuckled and turned away as Galen gasped and wheezed, trying to breathe again, pressing himself farther into the corner.
He’d never kill anything for this monster, no matter how hard he was hit and how many nights he went hungry.
Never. Again.

______________

“I-“ he balled his hands into tight fists praying to whatever god that he wasn’t trembling, “it was my fault. The crazed fellow was on the receiving end of some aggression and I offered to help, but he nearly killed my bird and I got angry… it won’t happen again…”
"In a place like this, threats in the name of self-preservation don't seem unjust. Save for if they are only to cause division or disorder."
She dropped her arms, resting a hand on the hilt of her flintlock.
"I'll have a word with the first mate, and you're excused your 'deck scrubbing task.' Finish assisting the crew in preparing to sail."
Ember stepped around him quickly, turning slightly to avoid bumping him, but their towering wings still brushed a she strode past, heading for Jintao.

(Hey, sometimes dialogue is all that's needed and it's fine)
Sweeps of dark blue suede soft under the fingers, stuck with plumes from some exotic fowl—maybe even Harpy— and properly heaped with black lace in swathes: Captain Vhanya Marriott’s hat was a great source of pride.
It coupled nicely with her heavy wool gown, fabric stiff with sea salt. The one with the puffed sleeves, and skirts clipped up roguishly out of her way by a leather skirt-hitch she wore round about her waist. A flintlock gleamed on one hip, rapier on the other.
And, the volatile tail, swaying back in forth behind her as she strode down the aft, swaying in long strokes, like a galleon on light waves.
“Good morning!” she called, to a little knot of her crew, nearly all fuming at each other in some way.
Though the Aqras’ additional sense was not nearly as honed as those other Mythical races, she could nearly smell the blood hot in veins and racing hearts from only souls knew what previous happenings.
She offered up a smile, flashing yellow eyes. “Now now, Bailey, Mr. Balìk, dear Ember— I trust you’ve made as reasonable judgements as you’re able in my absence.”

Jintao watched Galen pass by and reach Ember like his very stare could control him. Ember began to speak, and Jintao turned to Gecko, who was still quivering on the deck. He kept an ear open to Ember's words, allowing none of them to escape as to not go against them should he cross paths with Galen later.
"You're a real fool," Jintao tightened his grasp on the parchment tucked behind his back. "Fools like you should be sent around the fleet and lashed by everyone."
Gecko tucked his wings in tighter. "F-fleet? Whatt-da that?" his voice trembled as badly as he did.
Jintao tucked his tongue between his teeth. Careful what you say. They don't need to know. "Trying to destroy another man's possession, I hear," Jintao stepped closer to Gecko, towering over him like his very shadow could be enough to torture the harpy.
Gecko glanced up, his eyes bulging. "I, uh... it... it was eh nice... bawdy?"
"So stealing, yes?" Jintao raised his chin. Poke where it'll hurt the most. "That's a price worthy of having your hand chopped off and thrown to the sharks."
Gecko rushed his hands under his torn shirt.
Jintao took a knee, locking the harpy in the eyes and staring down into his soul. "The bird's got a price. Ask Galen for it. You pay him three times as much and never go near it again. You do, and I'll let him torture you. Is that understood?"
Gecko opened his mouth and closed it like he was gasping for words. Footsteps padded the deck with too much respect for the scene, and a joyous greeting echoed toward the watching crew. Jintao stood up. Vhanya, he didn't need to look.
"Yes, Captain," Jintao turned on a heel, holding his chest high and sliding his parchment from Gecko's view. He had the Harpy right where he wanted him. Gecko didn't need to know he was without weapon; all Jintao needed to do was keep him believing that he did, and the Harpy would stay under control.

(This is so well spun together, Lacy, I wish I could write like you and RD)

Ember halted only a couple of strides from the firstmate, turning slightly to face the Captain as she arrived. The usual aura of self-importance and control seemed to spill over the deck boards where the heeled boots fell, and internally, Ember recoiled at the presumed air of grandeur.
"Yes, Captain. There hasn't been too much difficulty this morning, but I'll have the report for this small mishap to you in a moment."
She cocked her head toward Jintao, stealing a glance at the fear crippled Harpy on the boards at his feet.
"Balìk, a quick word, if you don't mind."

(Aw, thank you! You're writing is very good too! I've been admiring it lately, especially when you've written Eclipse.)

Jintao stopped, glancing at Ember. She? Wanting a word with him? Surely it was only for the report and nothing else. He had done nothing to oppose her, and with the Captain and Baily standing nearby, it was not for the gloating over her victory from the night before.
His gaze dropped to Gecko. Gecko sank back down, but his color was returning to his face. Jintao turned back to Ember, and with a prompt nod, he followed her port.

(Same😭
Idk what my “writing strength” is but what they’ve got, I don’t have.)
(Firstly thank you, secondly and more important GET THOSE DELUSIONAL WORDS OUT OF YOUR MOUTH
Both of you are so, so excellent at cutting strong, distinct characters. Even if it’s just a standard fifty-word RP post, you really capture voices and thought processes in a way I can’t wrap my brain around)

(Hey, you're both good! You each have your unique thing that makes your writing perfect! For you, it's your characters and the deep details you have put into their worlds. On @-Shade-, it's the way she can put so much in her characters surroundings without slowing down the pace and keeping everything true to her characters' personality and voice.
I admire both of you and think you're both amazing writers!)
