The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

90's are definitely pushing it for me too!

laughing because I've measured for the brooder door 3 x's , screwed up 4 x's, and now I think it is best that I put down the tools and stop before things get out of hand. not a spatial person at all.

well, now I feel stupid and I even took French!
my grandmother was born in France and lived there until she was 19 or 20. I can understand more than I can speak. Now cursing in French. Got that down.

. My grandmother can swear in 3 languages. French, German (learned from the Nazi's, she is from Normandy) and of course English.

To share a little humor .... We were on Vacation in Lake George Ny. A lot of Canadians vacation there as well. Well I thought I was alone one morning outside the hotel and farted

. A family walks around the corner and the woman says "cochon". I reply "merci petit pet"

dead silence

Why is that, stony?
Not putting all of one's eggs into one basket is a saying that means not to place all of your value on one spot, otherwise, if calamity befalls that one spot you have lost all of your valuables. Stony is taking it very literally and not putting all of his chickens in one house. If a predator gets in to one house (or a fire or any other calamity), he will only lose one house full of chickens and still have seven other houses (or whatever). I believe it is a great idea... added benefit of keeping smaller "sets" of birds per "area" to free range since they won't go too far from home. This has been my plan for when I get more land. I am happy that somebody who has been there done that is putting it to practice with good results.

Also, I wanted to complain about our weather lately! 80 or so one week, below freezing the next. I am TRYING to plant a small vegetable garden and the weather is determined to be against me.

I'm still cracking up after reading through all the posts from today. Y'all are awesome! LOL!

I may get in trouble for this but..... Is that an Indian Possum? I noticed the red dot in the middle of the forehead.....

on the barn build!!!!
hmmmm, seems one of the lady's... the one who started the thread took the BIGGEST trailer she could find and make a coupe ( a really nice one at that) out of it. The evidence says the lady's think bigger is better

My Dh is 6'3" and you know what they say about men with big hands... they wear big gloves!
My trailer is one of my 3 coops (so far). The main reason for buying and rebuilding it is because the house we're renting is on the market. We could be asked to move at any time and I needed a bigger coop... that I could take anywhere. Problem solved!

Thank you, but my husband is a woman :)

or quite simply, if you drop that basket, you broke all of your eggs. Ever almost drop your basket while collecting eggs? Quite the freak out moment

I'd like to do that too but wondered if they'd get enough protein and too much calcium?
I love your user name! Blue Mouse, how did you come up with that?

My feed is a whole grains mix, fermented, it comes to about 20% protien. So, it has no calcium supplements in it. I give the big girls kelp meal, and ground eggshells stirred in, and free choice oyster shell. I just give the babies the kelp daily, but the eggshells only once a week. My girls lay nice thick shelled eggs, and only nibble at the oyster shell, so I figure they must be getting enough.

my nickname was Mouse in college because I was always curled up in odd corners. My hair was also at the time electric blue, so... Blue Mouse. I still sign all my art work with a little mouse.
Thank you, but my husband is a woman :)

This is a beautiful picture of the two of you!
