x2 I found 2 children were hard to handle, could not imagine 6. Good luck, hope all goes well.

I am hatching for the first time and so far I have 3 babies hatched and lots more pips. This is so exciting, I am sure I will not get any sleep tonight. So far 1 RIR and 2 SLO have hatched, just waiting for the rest to start zipping.

6 boys

And...congrats!  :highfive:

Lmao yup! The oldest is 20 the youngest is 3 the two oldest are out on their own( well half way) still use mom as a cloths washer and grocery store... The third oldest is gonna graduate( hopefully) next year and the fourth just went into high school this year... Then the others... The next just started kindergarden, the youngest just finished potty training, and now one more on the way! Ahhg
And thanks :D

Thank you, Kassaundra, for that link to the BYC caponize post. Through the next few years I'll be keeping quail & may look into that for an alternative way to keep roos other than just processing (esp if one boy turns into a family pet). Later down the road I'll be keeping chickens & will definitely be referring back to that post.

I think, for practice it might be good if I try it on a recently culled bird, strapped down but just pretending they're sedated. It would let me work with a fresh body & not worry if I make any slip-ups. Kinda reminds me of nurses who practice drawing blood with needles on store-bought, dressed chicken carcasses.; human-like veins without the worry of causing bruising or screams. XD

Typed in Natural chickens and found this thread! I haven't been able to read all posts yet so forgive me if I ask something that has already been answered. I can't seem to find any great GMO and soy free chicken feed that doesn't cost an arm and a leg! Does anyone know where I can find some, reasonably priced? Would I be better off making it myself? If so, what is a good recipe for 40 3-14 week old chicks?
Reasonably priced is not on the map for grains anytime in the future..it is supply and demand. I used to pay $150.00 for a ton of grain. Those days are gone forever. The price of feed has quadrupled in the last 5 years. You will be so much better off making your own. I am posting a link in hopes to help you find something local.
