The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

At least the goats looked healthy. I know for a fact, however, that the chickens are in a fenced coop area that is impacted dirt (no litter outside) and I don't know if they get to free range. The turkeys and ducks are out running around wherever they please.

Kassaudnra and Justine, thanks! I'm going for pullet too. Now I have to learn what "splash" really means. I have a black twin to her, and she has sort of silvery lights on her feathers. Splash too? And the black twin doesn't seem to have a tail really I was worried that meant roo but she looks girly to me.

Leah'smom, take faith and trust in your good chicken raising practices - yours should have fabulous immune systems. If you are really worried, beff em up if that is possible (maybe garlic). Keep a closer eye on them for the next couple of weeks, but really, relax.

Splash is technically blue. It is two copies of the blue gene.

Black should not have silvery highlights. Maybe post a picture and we can try to help you out with that one.

Lala my newbie guess was girl since my Edie looked the same at that age. She was hatched from super blue layer eggs by Sally8. She lays a pretty light blue egg & is super friendly.

Yours is very pretty as well. I like the grey in her.

Leahs Mom I havent seen pigeonguy on other threads in awhile either. Perhaps he just has a busy summer?

As for your error, it happens we are all human

I would spray some acv around, up their garlic intake if you wanted & just watch them. I am sure that if something was off with their flock it would of caught your eye right away. I wouldn't stress unless you notice something (& no poop watching

Anything else you'd do if it were you?
Take a deep breath and believe that every thing will be fine. I believe everything will be fine. Your flock are healthy. They will be able to fight off any pathogens that may or may not have hitched a ride on your shoes. We prepare for the worse by building our flocks immune system. You made a human error. Please don't beat your self up over it. Move forward as if things will be ok. The stress of worry will not help you. I believe you have done what you can.

uh oh. splash is blue? is this like a fashion color where the word is unrelated to the actual color? gonna have to look this up. I will see if I can get a pic of the black one.

thank you! she is a sweetie too.

Question about acv and gArlic. I've just started using acv ( 1 tablespoon per gallon). Can I also use garlic in combination with the acv?

I use acv in the water about every other week or so, not continuously. I put garlic on their feed, kind of top dressing it, when I think they need a boost, or when I come across a really good deal on it. Some people always have acv in the water along with a clove of garlic. doesn't seem to hurt anyone. not sure it is necessary.
