I think the cock had better shoes on than that silly girl. Almost makes me ashamed to have red hair!!!

You should post the second video on the DIY inventions thread! I prefer the easiest method of all - grab them from the roost/nest or lure them onto the deck railing with food and snatch them from there. Coats (not coat hangers) work really well when they know what's up and start running around like mad!

Quote: I have used cayenne as a preventive against worms. I've never seen a worm overload in my hens since I got them 18 months ago.

I actually though she was going to show me something useful.....she could do that all day in my yard and never even get close to a chicken.

She would of had it a lot easier is she threw out a handful of scratch lol

the most difficult part of catching my free range birds is NOT stepping on them as they try to get in my way. a little bit of scratch and I can just pick up whichever bird I want at that moment. the trick here tho, is to put the scratch in a bowl that you can take with you, so they don't eat it all while you're putting the caught bird where you want it.

if you listen to the birds, they'll tell you I'm a horrible mean person who hasn't fed them in about 6 months, which is why they're all oh-so-starved and malnourished, which is why they don't care if I'm hovering over them while they try to get what little food I give them.

Tina is going broody again...she got into the nesting box last night instead of going to roost. Found her in the nesting box mid morning and thought she might be laying but after a couple of hours and no egg, I pulled her out and put her outside. She started picking up dead grass and putting it on her back.....LOL
Shoot, we got three hens....Oprah lays XL eggs, Juanita does not lay and Tina layes large eggs...when she's not broody. Looks like we are back down to an egg a day for a while. Last year she was a very stubborn brooster.

THIS
If you raise your chickens in a manner such that they are HAPPY TO SEE YOU you won't have a hard time catching them. Or, anyhow, we don't. We've got Brahamas, Orpingtons, and Australorps, so that might be part of it. But the chickens in that girl's video looked like Australorps too.

There's a very easy solution....gambling. High card gets the egg, draw straws, Best two out of three. If you have very young children, they will be the easiest to cheat but the hardest to placate after they watch you eat the egg....JAJAJAJA Just kidding!!
