Leigh, you should put a signature on that last photo. :) Hope you don't mind me sharing. It's what I use for examples when I hear people ask.

Just stating a fact here. I belong to many forums all on different topics. This is the only one of a dozen forums I belong to where OT doesn't automatically mean off topic.

It's been a long time since I've had a problem with leg mites in my flock. I used what I was taught to use by another OTway back a long time ago.. Kerosene. Dip the legs. Don't get it on the feathers. Kills mites instantly. I keep Nu Stock in my barn these days.

About spur removal. No matter which way you do it: Blood stop powder and Blue Kote. Healthy chickens heal from this procedure very quickly. A bird that is compromised by some other issue might have a difficult time healing.

ok, am going to go pick up some kerosene. I think I could dip legs in kerosene and then do the spur and the blue kote at the same time? As far as I know, everyone is pretty healthy except for the scaly leg mites.

Let's use it as off topic, as old timer kind of put a bad taste in my mouth.

Rename it something better. Like CE - Chicken Experience. I don't know.. Just not a fan of the term old timer any more.

Question: I don't give chicken bones to cats or dogs because they can get caught in their throats but can chickens eat the tiny bones from a cooked chicken without problems?

Another question: I'm doing the ff but it turns into such a mush :( , I'm using grower crumbles & pellets & some scratch & boss, what can I do to make it not as mushy?
