The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

I made puddles for the chicks today..they do not cool off in the pool. I tried to put a few in, but, they thought it was horrible.
I worry if we have a repeat day. I tossed some watermelon in the freezer and hope that helps them.
I have a kiddie pool full of water too but only the turkeys ever get in. I'm lucky enough to have a running creek just a few yards behind the coop. We have a pump setup in the creek and can pump water all day without worrying about our water levels. I create a huge pool 10 feet across and just a few inches deep. They all wade around in it. Hopefully, it's enough. Tomorrow is supposed to be hotter. I moved the bunny inside with the air after reading about Justine's bunny. The dogs are inside too with hubby while I'm gone. Now if only the electric holds. A neighboring town had huge transformers blow up last night for some reason.

Sorry if I ruffled anyone's feathers, I like to look to this thread for alternatives to chemical solutions for my flock, I'm really not trying to make anyone mad, I just don't care too much for hypocracy. I do wish you all the best, healthy and happy flocks!

The only problem I have with vegans, vegetarians (not so much), and gluten-free people...

I work at a restauarant/food service place where many of our customers fall into the above categories, and the cooks TRY to cook foods specifically for them. Most of the food we serve is buffet and/or cafteria-line style. What gets me is the people who seem to be vehemently vegan or gluten free (etc) and act like they will DIE if any non-compliant food were to cross their lips. They DEMAND a full listing of all ingredients and get pissy if every server doesn't know every single ingredient in every single dish. All I can say is that if your beliefs are THAT strong, or if your life truly will be threatened if you eat a particular thing, then you should BRING YOUR OWN FOOD. There, that was MY vent!
Yeah. Vegetarian eh. But Gluten Free though a lot of them they will get extremely sick(It is an allergy and I mean like someone with milk allergys, Same reaction to people with gluten allergies) REALLY HURTS! XD

WERE BUYING A TRUCK!! 2003 Dodge Ram 103499 km on it. Only two spots of rust on it. Mom is going to pay 500$ on it to help so she can use it too(I get to use her small car in exchange when she uses it). Finally something to get me off my butt and get my license XD(I had my beginner for a long time but had a scare due to some side effects of sleep apnea. We just need to install a hitch. The tires need to be replaced which they said they were going to do before I took it home. Im excited. I can finally Haul some hay by myself!!

Its an automatic(Good for me I cant drive a stick) and not all wheel drive though(Back wheels) but Was told it does have a kick(One of my good friends used to drive the truck before they pulled the insurance off of it(He lives in the summer house behind the owners house). Im getting a good price from it as its owned by an old man who just wants it gone and its a win win as I really cant affoard 3000+ for a truck and really need(Not want when running a farm) one

Good for you girl! Congratulations!
Thanks! I'm kind of excited. Its my first vehicle. I got to sit in it. My friend unlocked the passenger door then went to the drivers as if to get in and I yelled out HEY! And he looked at me and went What? and I called out WRONG SEAT! he laughed and went and sat in the passengers seat while I sat in the drivers seat to see how comfortable it was. Its comfy. Nice size. It'll need getting used to backing up such a big vehicle but Ill get used to it! I cant wait to take it home! I'm going to put my first payment on it tomorrow when We bring back the trailer(Were borrowing the owners trailer to go pick up some hay for the horses as my boarder seems to have dropped off the face of the earth and she owes me either first months rent or 300$ worth of hay as per our agreement(She only dropped off twenty bales unless that was hay made out of gold I don't think that met our bargain XD She was also supposed to get someone to come over and do their feet after I messaged her telling her that and also that I needed either the hay she promised or first months board she never logged in and its been three weeks. I'm going to get their feet done as soon as my Hoof trimmer(I don't really know what to call her as shes a natural horse advocate not a farrier) comes back from Calgary shes gonna come over and do their feet and give my horses a one over. Poor horses have split hooves. I thought Spirits hooves were bad when she first came home!(Hadnt been done ALL winter long and her bars were overgrown over her sole and she had thrush all in there. )

Maybe I'm a little touchy since I'm waiting for my husband to get home. I want to try to save some artwork and family items and pictures from our cabin that is threatened by a wildfire. Not sure if they will let us in the evacuation zone.

Thankfully we live down the hill, so our pets, important documents and chickens are here. If we lose it, we lose it but I would love to grab a few things that are irreplaceable to me.

Edited for spelling - just can't type tonight

I hope your cabin is ok and the fire does not reach it.

Ahhh... soak before the pedicure.....

Hey.. lady...time for a pedicure.... Lady? (Where is Leah's Mom when you need her anyway?)

(These are old photos y'all have seen before but wanted to show again that it doesn't take much to make a cool-off. I have 2 of these out and the BR is the ONLY ONE that stands in it. All the others drink.)

My father has Celiac disease, I'm gluten free by choice.

I don't appreciate being called names because of my dietary choices.
There are people that are GF because it's trendy and to 'lose weight' but let me tell you: the GF replacements are often higher in carbs and can actually make you gain weight.

All this corn replacing the wheat...

Susan and my best friend Dylan are GF by choice. I eat a lot of GF foods and they cook everything GF. They don't do it to be trendy. They do it because they are educated on what wheat is now. I am not bothered at all by any wheat, but now that they have been GF since October, they will be locked in the bathroom with the runs after eating anything with gluten.

I have IBS and some foods really set me back days. Any processed meat really makes me ill.

FridayYet, I agree with you. No one should be called names for their choices. That was the point in my first post. No matter what you eat, you are not above me, nor bellow me. You can eat McDonalds every day and I will not look down on you: so don't look down on me. That was my point.
