The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

Sorry for the non chicken related post but I'm furious!
I've been trying to buy a couple goats for over a month now and it seems like as soon as they find out I'm a Yankee ( my phone number gives it away) they try to scam me over with goats that have problems! I mite be a Yankee but that don't mean I'm stupid enough to try to buy something without doing my homework on what I'm looking at!!!! Grrrr!!!!
What kind of problems? I have no idea what a yankee is :S

Can you get a new number and have the old roll over to the new for a year or so?
It is not right to try and scam but there are lots of less than honest people out there. Of course now you have a way of finding out. If some one is willing to try and scam you, you might consider finding a different seller.

A yankee is an American slang term for someone from the north. Used to mean just the north east, but has come to mean anyone from the north. In some circles there is animosity or distrust between some southerners and some "Yankees"

A Yankee is someone from the north, and problems are overbites, underbites low weight and trying to pass off as young when their teeth are clearly saying otherwise...

I've been trying with several different sellers both private and brokers and their all doing this! It's infuriating and changing my number just isn't an option rite now, but what I can't understand is why they think I'm ignorant and an easy target...

I used to have an Uncle from the South and he would jokingly call us up here in Washington State. 'Yanks'. We would always laugh. I had no idea what the joke was.

I have no idea what being considered a 'Yankee' would have to do with getting scammed over goats. Getting taken for a fool by anyone is just low. Period.

I noticed it says you are in Texas. It could just be that state's mentality that you are not from the great state of Texas and thus not as ranch knowledgable. It might not be south vs north. I have to say when I went down south for college I was very very surprised that the southerns were still all up in arms about the yankees. My family just did not hate any southerners. I even live less than an hour from a city that got fined for allowing their schools to discriminate against anyone with darker skin. I just found it funny that there were young people out there with not only racial bias but a very real dislike for people born in the North.
Now I have met some people born and raised in TX. I have to say they joking say things indicating that their state is the best and for every thing, there is a Texan who can do it best. I'm thinking you need a cheap TX phone number for buying and selling and a TX hat too.

Could be, I added a couple more roosts to see if it fixes it. It had me worried, last night I went out there and they were sitting there in the rain. Its also where they walk across the roof and come to the window to find me is where they are roosting on the railing

I'm in TX and I'm from the north. I used to get crap all the time about it. I don't hear it much anymore. I'm not sure if it's because I've been here 23 years and now considered mostly ok, or they've forgotten where I came from. I had a comeback for the "Yankee" slams. I won't say it here. It's not vulgar, but it's rude. It usually left them speechless! Not sure what kind of goats you are looking for, but have you tried breed associations? Breeders listed there might hold themselves to higher standards.
