@lalaland

lala - I have heard from many folks that when they let the combs and wattles alone they healed very well so I'm still in the "hands-off" mode on this. I've seem some pretty amazing winter photos then the birds in spring and how good they look. (And I've also seen a lot of damage done by "treating").

I know this is a repeat, but wanting to state it briefly again for those that may not have read the other posts.

My "current" take is to observe for any oozing or wetness or extreme inflammation. As long as things stay dry, I'm planning on continuing "hands-off".

Now if I had a Margaret - or possibly Aoxa's current boy I would evaluate each situation and go from there. Margaret would have come inside and been in for the whole winter if I were going to treat...just like Aoxa did. But I wouldn't have been bringing her in and out of the heat and back to the cold over and over like so many are doing.

The disclaimer is "current". I'm observing and trying to use common sense.

This is why I'm asking several folks that are dealing w/frostbite - including you - to take photos throughout the weeks and into spring to document what they are looking like and what happens in the spring/summer. That way we can have something from experience and photos to show of what we've done/not done and the results. It will help us all for the winters to come.

Henry is so loveable! I don't remember your other dog's name?
Rosie :)

She is absolutely terrified of the chickens. A Barred Rock girl pecked her on the nose and she just cowers unless Henry is there to make her feel more at ease - which he does. He is so much better with the chickens than Clementine ever was.

I threw scratch on him this weekend and the chickens pick it all out. It is so funny to watch!

He's gotten so big! and still adorable

He's 100 pounds now! big boy!
This picture is so great!!!
Thank you!

I found this thread from the inventions thread. Didn't know it was here. Glad to find it. :) I don't have chickens yet, but the plan is in the works. Learning all I can for now.

I skimmed a few pages and thought I would post about this all natural product called Waxelene Petroleum Jelly Alternative. You can use it on your chicken's combs to keep them from getting frostbit. I read about it on Fresh Eggs Daily's facebook page.
