Hi, folks --

My EE has white and red earlobes, and in recent weeks I've noticed a bald area on her neck under her beard. (see pics)

I found no evidence of lice, tho I did see some areas in the back of head/neck with feather stubs. The white does not rub off.

After looking around, I am starting to think favus...

I read of Nustock as a potential treatment. Any knowledge or experience out there?

I really, really, really, really want to avoid conventional meds.

It's a little unclear to me how much of an impact this fungus can have on chickens' health, although it apparently does spread potentially/slowly to both chickens and humans. Some folks on this website have said it could threaten health to a great degree.

This link says it sometimes resolves on its own, and there were similar results among both treated and untreated birds:

Thanks in advance for any thoughts/help!

I don't have any experience with favus, but NuStock is anti-fungal and I have seen it work wonders on many things. It has a VERY strong smell so be forewarned.

I have to say that as far as I know NuStock hasn't been tested for approval for use on poultry. That doesn't mean that it cannot be used, it can just mean that it hasn't been tested on them. Just wanted to state that up front.

JUST MY OPINION... If I had a bird w/a fungus I'd likely try a thin coat of the NuStock. There are other anti-fungals that are probably more "natural", but if it really is a fungus, the NuStock would probalby knock it out in short order.

The other thing I'd do is give a probiotic in the feed and/or water. Avi-Culture II is the only one i recommend as it is made specifically for avian use and the cultures are grown on non-gmo substrate. It's the ONLY one that is grown on non-GMO substrate at this point.
