The Never Ending Story Of The Buffingtons

Chapter38: Attack of the Barn Swallows!

Has anyone been attacked by a Barn Swallow before? It's nasty, I can tell you that. The little birds seem to think that that large building is THEIR nest, Not your barn, and if you try to convince them otherwise... It can get nasty.

TLG was in her backyard when she heard high pitches clucking and shrieking from the chicken coop. Thinking someone has laid an egg, she walked to the coop.
The Buffingtons were panicking, most of them were outside, rushing around, Miss Q was leaning against the door, attempting to escape. Annemarie and Princess were hiding underneath of Miss Q.
TLG was immediately suspicious.
There was more shrieking coming from inside!
TLG raced inside only to see several Barn Swallows dive bombing Marshmallow and Carmel! TLG rushed over and scared the birds away.
Seconds after, she saw birds staring at her from every corner of the pen. (There were only ten, haha, but it seemed like that)
Marshmallow and Carmel raced out of the coop, and TLG waved her hands, yelled, and swatted at the Barn Swallows as they swooped by her head. Soon though, all of the swallows were gone, and all was right with the world again.

Chapter 39: Letting The Buffingtons Out (Fall Edition)

It was early morning, the outside was covered in a lovely haze of fog, hiding the world

TLG raced outside, her muck boots heavily clomping in the dew. Reaching the Buffington's coop, she opened the gate and walked inside. After closing the gate again, she opened the door and watched as the Buffingtons raced out.

Their empty waterers were carefully cleaned out, and clean water was gushed inside of them.
The Buffingtons were (Thankfully) becoming closer, the bigger Buffingtons still picked on the silkies- as big sisters do-but they didn't try to bully them away from the waterers anymore, and had formed a grudging alliance with them.

Meanwhile, Miss Hershey stood in the doorway, picking at a corncob TLG hadn't picked up yet.
Consuming most of her mind was a simple question, but it plagued her most every day. Why didn't TLG want her to be happy? All Hershey wanted to do was to hatch unfertilized eggs, she didn't care if they were hers, or Lady Chipmunks, or Miss Q's, she just wanted to hatch some eggs.

A small voice in the back of her head nagged at her, "Perhaps it's time to stop trying, it's getting colder, and you want to be up and about before the snow comes," it clucked. Miss Hershey tried her best to ignore this voice, but one night, she found herself jumping onto the perch next to Lady Chipmunk.

Lady Eggnog walked over to TLG, she was holding her camera, perfect, she wanted beautiful pictures of her. Lady Eggnog fluffed her feathers, she had been losing feathers lately, and had stopped laying, so she was glad TLG didn't resent her, and was taking pictures.

A while later, the camera was put away, feathers were smoothed, and TLG slowly walked inside to begin a tedious task known as 'school'. With luck, TLG would be back at lunch time to play some more. But in the meantime, the Bufingtons began hunting for some delicious , juicy bugs

Chapter 39: Autumn

The nights were growing longer, and the days were getting colder. TLG had to wear a jacket when she went to the coop, Chipmunk thought this was great fun, and yanked her zipper.

TLG sat on a bucket in the coop, and watched the Buffingtons race around and play.

Cadbury, Annie, Marshmallow, and Charlotte (half in the picture)

Annie and Chipmunk discussing best worm hunting hours.

Princess proudly standing in the middle of the pen, make believing she was lead hen instead of Skye... Maybe that could happen one day, Skye couldn't be the leader forever...could she?

Carmel Raced around the pen, eating from the feeder, rushing to the water, attempting to find the last bugs of spring. It's hard work being a chicken.

Marshmallow stands gallantly, attempting to see past his fluff.

Carmel struts near TLG, before running away, she still didn't trust her.

Eggnog stood still, contemplating the earth's mysteries, such as why the feeder emptied so quickly.

Chipmunk stuck her face up close to TLG's camera, pecking at the rubber case.

After a minute, Skye came up to peck at the camera also, it was so amazing.

Marshmallow and Eggnog were slowly starting to make friends, though they still didn't trust each other fully.

Hershey finally broke her broody spell, and was eagerly jumping onto the perch each night.

A picture of Skye that may give some people nightmares.

Q, up close and personal.

TLG pulled Hershey onto her lap, and they sat together for a minute.

Wings (Honestly, it could be Princess, I just can't tell them apart

) kept her distance from TLG, she wasn't really sure if she was trustable or not.

Chipmunk grew tired of Hershey getting all of the attention, and jumped on TLG's back. She stayed there until Hershey got down from TLG's lap. Then she flew away.

Eggnog stuck her beak in the camera. She didn't get it, Chipmunk and Skye said it was amazing.

TLG lifted Eggnog onto her lap, and hugged her.

Eggnog, seeing her sisters having so much fun without her, jumped off. (Such an amazing action shot

Soon it was dark, and the Buffingtons had a bedtime snack of oatmeal, carrots, and strawberries.
