The Never Ending Story Of The Buffingtons

Chapter 34: The Scariest Moment In The Buffingtons' Lives
Once bitten by a snake, he/she is scared all his/her life at the mere sight of a rope.” -Chinese Proverbs.

A sound, soft and scaley, grazed the Buffingtons ears. They looked at eachother silently, before rushing to the door and struggling to get to it. Miss Q was closest to the cause of the sound, and what she saw struck fear to her very core. It slithered over, making them all scream and cackle. Where was TLG? The serpant turned, and nimbly climbed into the chicken tractor's house... Where Miss Hershey was sitting on her eggs.
When Miss Hershey saw it, she bravely hissed at it. (You know how foolish broody hens can be.) It stopped and looked at her, when he had been here before, it had been simple to puncture the eggs. It had even been simple to go inside their main building to frame them for devouring the eggs.
TWG (TLG's Mom,) walked out into the dusk, TLG wasn't feeling very well, so she was caring for the Buffingtons tonight. All of them were crowded at the chicken tractor door. How strange, TWG thought. She opened up the door and the Buffingtons raced into their house, eager to get away.
TWG opened the door to take Miss Hershey. When she opened the door, (It opens on the top) she gasped as she saw the four foot long black snake. It looked up at her, surprised. She closed the lid quickly, and raced back inside.

MEANWHILE...
TLG and TTG (TLG's Dad) were watching Andy Griffith on the television. TLG was having issues (Sore throat, etc), so she had asked TWG if she would take care of the Buffingtons for her. TWG had scarcely been out for five minutes when she raced inside. "SNAKE!" She said, "IN WITH HERSHEY, IT'S HUGE!" TTG and TLG jumped up, TTG ran outside, while TLG stayed in. (I don't like snakes, they scare me.) A minute later, TLG ran outside, (But not before putting on tall, thick boots.) TTG was walking away, with a huge snake dangling from a shovel. (It had to have been over four feet.) When TLG saw that, she thought of something. Lately, there had been holes in the eggs made from 'Hershey's Toenails,' and sometimes they 'skipped laying,' and sometimes even 'ate the eggs'. The snake could have been doing that this entire time! That would explain why it was so huge!

Chapter 35: SUMMER!

Today, TLG came outside with a huge plate of yogurt and sun flower seeds for the 'big Buffingtons', and a smaller plate for the 'little Buffingtons'.

The Buffingtons loved the delicious taste of the yogurt.

TLG put Miss Hershey inside their main pen and gave her a small portion of the yogurt. (She's still broody :/)

Soon after, she attempted to give some to the silkies, they had recently been moved out of TLG's room because it was affecting her breathing. They didn't want any, even when she gently rubbed their beaks with it.
Marshmallow soon got bored of this, and ran outside with Carmel and Cadbury to play.

After a few minutes, they got hot in the summer sunshine, and ran back inside.

OH MY! Well at least you know who the real culprit is now. I am glad the snake didn't try and make a meal out of any of your pretty ladies!

Mom said the snake was up in a strike positions, so it was probably about to kill Hershey :/

Chapter 36: Beating The Heat

Today was very, very hot. The Buffingtons were inside their chicken tractor when TLG came walking out with a slush chickie.

When TLG poured it into their pen, they quickly gobbled it up.

After that, TLG poured a bit in the duck's and chick's waterers. ( they won't eat treats for some reason)

Chapter 37: Rabid Skunk

Hey little skunk there, don't put your stink on me, I'm just trying to get through my backyard, kinda peacefully.
-Parry Gripp (That skunk is mad)

The Buffingtons were peacefully scratching around in the grass, looking for worms and bugs, when TLG raced up to the tractor. She opened the door and quickly ushered them out. Only Skye and Chipmunk came out at her urging, Eggnog was confused. Why would she put them back in their pen, it was such a nice day! Skye and Chipmunk thought so too, and were very disagreeable. "Come ON girls," TLG said as she placed Chipmunk in the pen, "There's a rabid skunk loose, I need you to cooperate!"
After she shut the door for Eggnog, she opened the door to the house in the tractor, and grabbed Q, who had recently laid an egg. Q was very surprised to be suddenly picked up, and wildly flapped her wings. She flapped her wings until TLG put her in the coop.
Next was Hershey, who was still convinced she could hatch non-fertile eggs:rolleyes: Hershey lay in TLG's arms as she raced to the pens. Hershey was tired, it took all of her energy attempting to hatch her eggs, if TLG would quit snatching them, maybe she would succeed.
Once she placed Hershey inside, she opened up her hand and slowly let some cereal fall to the ground. YAY! Treats! The Buffingtons raced inside and gobbled them up.
Now the silkies, (TLG calls them that instead of the Buffingtons) the Buffingtons, and one duck were inside, all she had to do now was capture the other duck.

After five minutes of a duck honking, TLG nearly falling down, and several cries of 'PLEASE LEBEAU!', TLG gave up. She completely shut the door, and walked out of the pen.

Later on, TLG would let the Buffingtons out and tell them that the skunk had gotten away.

YIKES?!?!? SKUNK! Glad everything turned out ok with that stinker!
NOW, tell us all what a slush chickie is please? :D

Haha, we accidentally caught an albino skunk in a live trap once (I was trying to trap my pet bunny that had gotten loose).
A slush chickie is basically an ICEE for chickens, you get ice, grind it up, mix fruit with it (I used blueberries) and serve it. My mom says they used to call them: Slush Puppies, so I called it slush chickie : )
