The NEW Crazy 24hr AUCTION thread

I also use practice eggs to see if she is sitting for real or playing house, but doesn't really care about it that much... I have had those and was thankful the eggs weren't ones i wanted or needed...since they are fake! I have three fake ones i use.
I hatch everything myself and give the serious mommas the babies... I was going to give my foley girl (blrw) some chicks, glad I didn't, a raccoon got hold of her last night before the dog could get there. so now she's in the hospital cage with bite marks around her head and neck... not sure how badly damaged, but she's still alive. her balance is messed up and she just sleeps a lot right now. i'll try getting her to eat and drink some a bit later again.

1 Dozen Ameraucans
A mix of eggs from my BBS pen and my Lavender pen
Starting bid is $15 and shipping is $15
On my way to the post office to pick up my eggs. Woo hoo! And stopping by walmart to pick up another cooler. It's a disease, it's not my fault.

I've got the sniper working for me while I'm gone, buying my incubator parts.

I hope your girl survives! We just had an opossum kill and eat one of our wheaten beauties...we only had three now there is a pair...That was soo hard I hate that for you. but now that we know what it is and that it came back last night and couldn't get in (we fixed that) we will be waiting for it. I have all ideas that it will get taken care of soon. Deb is getting the gun ready. If we trap it we will cart it off to the next town so it wont come back...but I have all ideas we won't be taking it for a "ride" anywhere
well, I got a trap for it/them, but so far they've just taken the bait thru the wire and tripped the trap without getting caught... any thoughts or suggestions?

I've got some nice stinky eggs that they seem to love, but all they did was crack the eggs and pull them thru the wire.

I attached sheet metal to mine and I've also used 1/4X1/4 wire wrapped around the entire cage except the part they go into. Stopped anything from reaching through and stealing bait.

DeannaA Let me know what shape they're in.

Darn multi button didn't work!!!!!!!!!!!! grrrrrrr

I've had horrible hatches mostly, since my husband died 3 years ago. I think it and myself are just mental! But I also have an OLD Sportsman, and although they develop, they don't hatch. I have 3 or 4 homemade bators buried somewhere and I swear they always kicked booty when it can to hatching. And I used to love to put things together, then ended up with a husband that always said "I'll do it, that's what husbands are for!" So now, I can't remember how to do much of anything I did before I met him, but I can build a bator. The last one, he cut hardware cloth for me, just because, but I wired it and cut and put it together. That one was a styro bator and it worked great. I didn't use a fan, but to tell the truth, I'm kind of partial to still air. I don't go out and fan broodies, so I figure it's good. One particularly bad hatch, my youngest daughter was here and she asked why I didn't just use one of the home made bators, because I always had things hatching in there. This year I set hundreds of eggs. To get chicks though, I used broodies. Nothing wanted to hatch otherwise.

the main thing with an incubator is to allow for plenty of fresh air exchange... the number 1 reason for a chick to die in the shell just before hatch is carbon dioxide poisoning.

lol.. so dust off those old bators and get them running again!

True. We caught that on my Sportsman if anyone remembers. I had scrubbed it out and closed the vents to let the wood dry before I opened them and forgot!! OMG I felt so bad about my babies dying. The homemades have lots of air flow and if I need to I just stick a piece of tape over them.
