Thank you for considering my eggs!
I do not wash my eggs - how they are collected is how you receive them. I wrap each egg in bubble wrap and pack with bubble wrap, shavings, peanuts or shredded paper. Because of the ways of the PO system, I can not guarantee your hatch rates. While I do hope you hatch ever egg I send, we are all aware of the unforgiving treatment of the postal handlers.
This is a Paypal only auction (no e-checks). Payment to be sent immediately after auction to:
[email protected]
Please PM me your mailing address and any special instructions (hold for pick up, ect).
My last post wasn't meant to be mean, and I can see were maybe I came off a bit more snarky than I meant. I'm not saying I didn't have a bit of a stern tone mentally as I wrote it though.
I have noticed that many people on BYC don't want to pay anything for eggs. The seller's market is lax on here. It's like almost everyone wants something for nothing. Like the whole $40 for my MFC eggs. Well, when it's all said and done I pay $15+ in shipping and whatever packing materials and Paypal fees. I am lucky if I make $25 off my eggs. They are worth more than that - this has been another labor of love and a lot of travel and $ sunk into it. I am sure the $50 price tag on my blacks may have seemed like a lot to some, but again, after shipping and the packaging (I used 30+ feet of bubble wrap), I made about $30. I'm not saying all the birds you hatch will be SQ, but my stock isn't someone's hobby farm of hatchery quality birds - like many I see on here and on eBay. I did go through a lot to get my birds. I traveled 100's of miles to get them - not to mention the mean breeders who yelled at me and treated me like crap because originally I was looking for eggs (I could not afford to buy and have birds shipped then - not at $50-100 per bird). Since most breeders sell their birds after the show season, we're talking Oct/Nov/Dec - guess what? That's the hardest financial time of the year for us because the OH loses hours. I also don't know of anyone who sells quality (black bantam Cochin) eggs at all here on BYC. Quality being the point. I bought eggs off of a respected BYCer that claimed I was getting SQ/BQ black and mottled b.Cochins. I culled every single chick I hatched - especially the Ameraucana crossed one w/ the beard and white skin. Once things get a bit more situated around here, I won't be offering any eggs for sale for another year or so.
Again, I am not trying to be mean. I do get frustrated over it though. It also stinks that I have had eggs to sell from certain breeds and while everyone else was getting $60-100 for the same eggs I couldn't get $30-40 from - not including shipping... Yes, frustrated may be an understatement.
Pbirdhaven, you got them!
Emvickery, right now I am doing this to feed my birds as well. I just sold off over 100 birds in the last two months. I have been on the verge of selling my entire MFC flock because I can't afford to feed all my birds - I am back to a manageable number at least! I had to use my TSC credit card to buy feed for the birds last week. OMG... $124 there when it's normally $42-52 at the mill. I wanted to die. But, I didn't have $42 in my bank account to go to the mill. I have 5 ducks to have processed and my two crippled turkeys and I can't seem to come up with the $35 to get them done. Those 7 birds being in the freezer will help feed us and help the feed bill go down. I know it's none of your problem that we are having an issue financially and said issue is not dictating the price of my eggs. I would be asking more for my blacks if I was doing an actual auction. I'd also be charging extra for shipping.
These birds are my hobby, too. A hobby that was supposed to be a dozen or so laying hens. Now I have $50-100 birds and no eggs to eat!
I have some orps for our eating eggs. My bantam birds we don't normally eat. I had 3 orp hens and a roo to protect them and in case anybody wanted orp eggs for hatching. A cotton mouth bit and killed one of the hens so I"m down to 2. It's a good thing we don't eat eggs much and I don't do alot of baking things that need eggs. I did alot of hatching guinea and quail eggs this summer. My last batch of guinea just hatched days ago. I managed to sell the guinea except for the last 2 batches. I also donated 10 silkie and sizzle juvies to St Jude for auction so that put a dent in what I have left. The sizzles juvies I have left are gonna be hard to part with.
