The NEW Crazy 24hr AUCTION thread

my nephew made an incubator out of a 20 gallon fish tank, a desk lamp, wire bakers cooling rack, towel and a really small fan he bought at walmart..
he hung the desk lamp in one end of the tank (I think he used duct tape to hold it down)
laid the baking rack over the top and to regulate temps he would cover or uncover the rack with the towel.. the fan helped keep the air moving

sure it was made on the fly.. but he managed to hatch out 6 chicks out of 10 eggs!

I also use practice eggs to see if she is sitting for real or playing house, but doesn't really care about it that much... I have had those and was thankful the eggs weren't ones i wanted or needed...since they are fake! I have three fake ones i use.
I hatch everything myself and give the serious mommas the babies... I was going to give my foley girl (blrw) some chicks, glad I didn't, a raccoon got hold of her last night before the dog could get there. so now she's in the hospital cage with bite marks around her head and neck... not sure how badly damaged, but she's still alive. her balance is messed up and she just sleeps a lot right now. i'll try getting her to eat and drink some a bit later again.

Quote: Yes, I made my "HEnnyPenny" using a large cooler. Bought a few parts like a fan, bottle lamp repair kit and WHT. With patience and many minor alterations, I hatch more chicks than I need.

I am just NOT this talented AT all! I can only make a " rotten egg maker" cause NOTHING is gonna Hatch...EVER. By the time I buy all the parts IF ( and that is toooo funny cause me buying parts is hilarious of its own accord) I could get the sucker even remotely figured out, to assemble it, it would never work...so I would waste more money...I.E. buy an incubator would be MY best bet every day!
I am amazed at all of you that have the talent and were-with-all to be ABLE to build stuff like that...and then to CREATE life with it? stunning...really...

I have a sportsman!!

I hope your girl survives! We just had an opossum kill and eat one of our wheaten beauties...we only had three now there is a pair...That was soo hard I hate that for you. but now that we know what it is and that it came back last night and couldn't get in (we fixed that) we will be waiting for it. I have all ideas that it will get taken care of soon. Deb is getting the gun ready. If we trap it we will cart it off to the next town so it wont come back...but I have all ideas we won't be taking it for a "ride" anywhere

The "4 Day" egg collection 24 HR AUCTION: Starting bid $3.00, shipping $25.00. Auction starts now and ends 8/6/2013 @ 12:33pm.

I have a mixed layer pen and a pure silkie pen that I collect from daily. You will get at least 1 dz eggs ( I send lots of extras if applicable) I put all eggs in one collection because I don't have enough silkie eggs, or easter egger eggs to make a full dozen. So I figured this way you get a little of everything I have at the moment. My mixed hens are red sexlink, gold laced polish, gold laced wyandottes, easter eggers, cochin banties, basque. My roos are pure BUT they run with my mixed layers at the moment-Basque and Black Copper Marans. My black silkies are in a separate pen-you will get pure black silkie eggs.

I DO NOT send eggs that are more than 4 days old. I CAN NOT guarantee your hatching rate or how the PO will handle them. I CAN guarantee they will be packaged very well that is why I ask for a little more on shipping/materials so that I can try to ensure the eggs safe travel, and they will be labeled as of what breed and the date collected. I DO NOT wash my hatching eggs-BUT I will lightly wipe them off if overly dirty. If you would like special labeling on the box please let me know. I will NOT send eggs on THURSDAY-SATURDAY do to the possibility of the eggs being left at the PO on Sunday-I will send eggs on any of the other days.

my silkies as juveniles

these are some of the chicks I've hatched from my own hens/roosters

the gang this spring (I don't have the leghorns anymore)

my roosters this spring

my grown silkies-they just won 1st place at our local fair

YOu just need a chance to practice and learn. My brother taught me a bunch when we were teens. Power drills, power saws, press drills. Learning is much more fun when you have something you want to make! One of my first efforts was a rabbit hutch-- which my brother promptly took over and finished!! I now do much of the chicken coops and all the planning. Practice, I'm telling you, practice.

the fan he used was one of those little personal type walmart cheapies.. has two settings.. on and off
he had the fan hooked over the side and blowing onto the light bulb
the only tools he used was duct tape!

and he was 7 at the time.. lol.. so yeah.. it was pretty easy

here's one that looks like the one he used.. used the metal stand part to hook it over the edge of the tank.. but he only paid about $5. for his.. so I'm not 100% sure it's the same one (but it looked exactly like this one). Any low powered fan would work.
