Oh awesome. Bill came up to me at the last minute I was leaving and sold me 2 girls from his show string! He knows I always ask him evry show if he is selling any and he said he was his only competition today! They are really sweet. One is laying already so I guess she is a hen then huh? I hope you have a great TG and remember what I am waiting for come springtime!! wink wink!!

By the way...were there more for sale after the show? I will kill Wayne for making me leave erly! hahaha

Didn't see any but Sarah had people come later in the day and bought a few of the show birds. She did very well sold all the Favs. she brought to sell plus some she entered that didn't need to come home. Was a pretty good day

I attended yesterday too. It was my first chicken show. Very interesting!

I found out that silkies and cochins might not be the best choice for my family as we want low maintenance, free range foragers!

I also discovered that I really like these little birds called old english and I ended up liking the barred plymouth rocks a lot better in person. I think I definitely want to get some of those barred rocks!! I wish My Pet Chicken sold the old english as well!

There were some standard buff orps there and that is the breed I have at home. Holy cow! The ones at the show were HUGE! I think I must have runts!!!!

Also, there was this huge standard barred plymouth rock rooster that was gorgeous but looked like he could easily take me out if he cared too. After seeing him, Big roosters now scare me! I never realized just HOW big some of these standard roosters are...

Anyway, I didn't buy anything. I am not even sure where the sale area was if thy had one. When we walked in there were a bunch of cages but I didn't see any sign that said "For Sale Area"!

I wish there was a handout that listed the birds shown; a little information about each breed; and a section if owners want to share their contact information or websites.

I felt kind of lost walking through the show. But, I am glad I went.

Yes, I'm sure there will be one to spare maybe around congress time, still growing them out.

AWESOME!!!

Posted 5 of my hens on CL last night and the lady is on her way to buy them! They are the biggest birds in the coop and I am scared they will land on my little moderns when they jump down off the roost!

A lot of the big boys are more docile than the smaller ones. I have some larger ones - between 8 and 13 lbs - and none will bother anyone. Absolute worst roo ever was a silkie.

Went there later in the day got there right before 2. Saw some really GORGEOUS birds. I fell in love with the White Frizzle cochins. One of them stuck her head out of the cage and was biting the shiny buckle on my purse! I already wanted white frizzle cochins.... now I'm 100% convinced I MUST OWN SOME!!!!! LOL.

well I posted this on the cochin thread, but I wanted to share here as well....

In the for sale section there were these two gold laced cochins. A 3 month old pullet in a pen with a 5 month old (at least) gold laced roo that would NOT LEAVE HER ALONE. I felt so bad for her because she was so persistent and she wasn't even close to egg laying size.. She was getting her tail feathers pulled and looked unhappy... once I looked closed I noticed she how dirty she was... you should have seen her... It was disgusting! I was gonna buy the pair for 15$ but asked the lady if she'd sell just the pullet because even though the roo was cute I didnt want my current chickens to have to deal with him. So... She sold me the pullet for 10$.. not bad.. I just wanted to get the poor baby out of that cage... I got a pair of wyandotte mutt (maybe cochin cross. not sure) hens as well from a little boy he was maybe 13 tops I think.

Anways... the first thing I did when I got home was give the gold laced girl a bath. I used 3 sinkfuls of water and a lot of antibacterial hand soap on her. The water turned brown as soon as she touched it... two first sinkfuls water were DISGUSTING brown, stinky, slimy, sludgey and feathery. I couldn't believe how dirty this poor baby was... I am really in disbelief that anyone could keep a chick in such disgusting condition. I am really glad I stuck to my gut and bought her... I bathed the mutt wyandottes too just for good measure and the water from their baths didn't even change color.. Believe me when I say I couldn't wait to take MY shower...

Gold Laced really enjoyed the water because it was nice and warm she even liked being blown dry with my hairdryer it was the cutest thing. mutt wyandottes didnt seem to want a bath... But I think the gold girlie knew how dirty she was. She barely even budged in the water! she was practically falling asleep in the water and even when I was drying her. she really enjoyed the warmth of the bath and drying. too cute Put a heat lamp above her and the other new bathed chickens for the night so they wouldn't get a chill.

here are some photos

during last rinse in bath... my boyfriend came upstairs at the end otherwise I would have had him take a photo of the gross dirty water as well

Thinking back on it I should have bought the roo too just to get him out of the situation with that unclean home...Ick!

Hey Shay, the lady that just bought my EE's is also looking for one or two frizzles and a cochin or 2 (bantam or LF) so contact me and I will give you her email. She has a large coop so space is not a problem for her. Oh, I believe she wants hens or pullets, but might take a roo.

Hello Everyone,
Sorry I havent been on,
Overall the show was a GREAT success, and while not final, we do believe we made a profit. And membership nearly doubled this year, so i believe we are out of our "chicken recession" and interest seems to be back.

I sold my two cochins roos, very happy!

xyresicchick You got those cochins from a friend of mine, who got her stock my my grandfather a few years ago

LOL Enjoy them.
BTW, yeah i saw them to they were definitely not how you or I would keep our birds

Make sure to separate them!
Smiley, Maybe you should attend some of our seminars? I believe we have on coming up in febuary, you can learn alot about showing and how shows are set up. Also becoming a member you will know about our swaps ect. PM for more info.
Also, of course there was a for sale area, though it was inconvenient and will be fixed next year, that pained emblem took away a lot of floor space.

Shay, I wish I could have talked to you more!!!! I was so busy.
Nice FINALLY meeting you darbella and it was nice seeing you saturday and sunday poultry run farm.

I got a 1 on one of my cochin hens!!! wohhoo! and i was putting myself down before the show. So I will definitely keep her.

Mark
