The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

I really like my Wellies. Decent layers (not prolific like Red Sex Links but that's fine with me) and so easy going. They forage well, handled our winter well (and you know what THAT'S been like) and the eggs are really dark brown and speckled - folks that buy eggs from me have even commented on them. I'd get more...if I was going to get more. My BO have never, ever been broody in the 3 years I've had them. But my Easter Egger went broody for the first time at 8 months, and she's been broody 3 more times since then! Guess she didn't read the book.

Teila, let's hope the "engine light" is nothing more than the gas cap not being sealed correctly. Yep, actually had that happen. It would come on every once in a while out of the blue, and putting the van on the diagnostic computer would reveal nothing wrong. Ken finally looked it up and others were saying that if the gas cap didn't seat just right, that pesky light would come on. He replaced the gas cap (there was a tiny, almost invisible nick in the thread) and it never did again for the rest of the 3 years we drove it.

Tam's doing better today, and I thank you all kindly for the shoulders! Not usually a down-in-the-dumps kind of person, but it hurts to see your kids in distress, especially if you are, um, a bit of a control freak. But she's had several people contact her with options, and one of the ladies is a good friend who used to work nights with her but moved to Seattle about a year after her husband died. She's calling Tam tomorrow after she talks to her realtor but the house she owns is free and clear, Tam's been there lots of times and has always liked the house, and Shannon may well let her buy it CFD, which is perfect. So pray hard!!! Funny twist? When Shannon moved, Tam bought the hutch, dining room set, and corner glass display shelf from her. Looks like it might be going right where it came from!

And Shannon said that if she had to, she'd put it in the contract that if Evan and Tam don't take this cruise, the deal's off! Gotta love good friends.

So Debby, how'd Big Foot do driving for the first time? Sorry, with that foot I can't think of something better to call him. I'm really dreading my imagination and his hernia surgery.

You guys all rock, do you know that????

@Blooie I soooo hope that deal with Shannon works out, it sounds ideal!

And I'm calling DH Frankenfoot...at least until the hernia surgery, then

lol. He did well driving and he's extra cautious about where he parks because of all the slush, snow and mud around. So far, so good!

Neither my BO or my welsummer have been broody. Source for the birds seems to be a big factor in them being prone to broodiness.

I don't intentionally tame my chickens. My barred rock I have currently, keep their distance. They aren't aggressive, just like you said higher in the pecking order. I certainly don't need to worry they will be bullied like my salmon faverolle can be.

My oldest welsummer has always been a strange hen who follows me around muttering to herself. I have enjoyed her immensely. The younger two I don't notice too often in my large flock. So they aren't troublemakers.

Are you wanting broody or not broody?
I had 2 BO's who were way too often broody - and don't want broody gals :) If they are occasionally, then ok, but not often, it's not fun to deal with.

Again, thank you so much, I have read mixed reviews of personality traits, and was having too much indecision...but comments from friends with experience really is priceless.

So, if all works out well. end of next week, we'll have some newbies in our garage

Thank you so much for opinion on the Wellies (I like that , so easier to spell).

IMO when one is down in the dumps, then "dumping" is the best medicine

I hope all works out for the best, maybe the next home will be even better:)

Terrific, 2 of each! Can't wait to hear how they do for you and to see pictures.

You're right...comments from friends are better than others. I'd rather trust my friends opinions than strangers.

Really happy for you sis!

I just got some good news of my own! My oldest son called to say he's coming for a visit. He'll be here around the middle of this week and spend a whole week with us before going back home in KS. I'm so excited, love that kid!!

Oh man, that means I have to clear out and clean up the spare room. Definitely worth it though!

Update: Soooo, the couple of mechanics we tried can not look at the car for at least two weeks! Turns out that it could be a misfiring cylinder under load, hills etc as the light stops flashing when back on the flat. Hubby is going to press on and at my advice, avoid hills … tee hee, heading North it is all uphill from here

AAA is road side service? Our equivalent is RACQ and we have the top cover, including travel assistance etc, motels if needed, tow if car becomes total cactus so he is covered.

Sunflour Aussie lingo! Sook = to sulk, crack a sad and act like a big fat baby when you do not get your own way

Can’t wait to see the pictures of the newbies!

Blooie what wonderful news! Hubby always gives me the eye roll [I am gunna miss those a little] when I say this but “everything for a reason”! Sorry, I am not familiar with CFD but it still sounds like a good deal and good news.

N F C Wonderful news for you too!

While it did not start off well, maybe today is going to be a good news day!
