The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Need any help? (Can't actually get down there, but so hard to resist another opportunity to snoop!). Have a great time and post pics!!!

Knowing you can't really come, I'll say "sure B, come on down and thanks for the help"!

I never realised the rest of the world didn't use the word "sook". Us kiwis use that word too. I call Pie a sook all the time, coz he is.

I had to eat dinner with Pie and Rosie on my shoulder. We'd let them fly round the study as it has lower ceilings than the rest of the house, then I tried putting them back in their cage. Pie was ok with going back in but Rosie was not getting off my hand! Rosie is a cuddly sweetheart. Pie panicked when he realised Rosie wasn't there so he had to come back out too! He's more nervous than Rosie who is so laid back. Thankfully the finches were happy to go back in - they love to fly onto heads! I don't think I could've coped with 4 birds joining me for dinner.

We'll have to stick with letting them fly round the study as we have very high ceilings in most of the house. Today, out in the hallway Rosie ended up on a light which was too high for me to reach her on even standing on a chair. Then Pie took off and ended up down the back of the fridge! He wasn't down far but I couldn't reach him without pulling out the freezer next to it. So that was fun!

Here's a Kiwi phrase for you: "rattle your dags"!

J, you had me completely puzzled with that one, so I looked it up:

rattle your dags
An old Australian expression meaning to hurry up. Has its origins in the crusted dry dags that gathered in the wool around a sheep's rear end. When dry and hardened they rattle when the sheep runs.
Never heard that one before

Sounds like the birds are keeping you busy! Funny about Rosie wanting to stay with you instead of going back inside. How are the little pink jelly bean babies (to borrow Teila's phrase) doing?

Good Morning Folks,

Debby - great news - don't work too hard, doubt your son will care about a few cat hairs

Telia - hope your DH's car makes the trip, that's scary to know you have a problem and a long way to drive.

Y'all have a great week, I'm off to work now.

Good morning all! I can't wait to see your new baby chicks Sunflour. Awesome your son is coming to visit Debby. My son will be heading to Wyoming I believe next week sometime...they are visiting a gold mine, not sure what town?? It's something through his college and I'm sure it has something to do with the equipment used for excavating as he's going to school for heavy equipment operation. Teila, I hope your hubby makes it to his destination ok!! Blooie, I have no doubt you're daughter will be fine with the strong family faith you have

@sunflour DS can't complain about our cat hair...he has a cat himself! Last time he was here I think he enjoyed the cats as much as anything else, maybe he's really coming to see them?

DMC, tell your son to take an assortment of clothes on his trip to WY next week. We've had 3 days of snow followed by a few really nice days, and now back to snow. Layering is a good idea! Hope he enjoys himself.

Hmm, sounds like he may be heading for Atlantic City up on South Pass, DMC. I could be wrong, but that's the only one I can think of right now...

And, with two phone calls and the handing over a key, Tam became a homeowner this morning. She's dead tired because she worked all night until 7 this morning, met the realtor at 10 (after coming by to pick me up and go with her) and she now owns her first home. So is she now at home being a good girl and getting some sleep before Evan gets home from school? Nope, she dropped me off and cajoled her dad into going over with her to see it again! He'd stayed here while I went so I wouldn't have to take Kendra. It was something to see. Immediately after getting her keys, she just lost it - couldn't stop crying she's so happy. I'm a little bummed -she's no longer going to be 2 blocks away but several miles. But I'll get over it! Thanks for the support, my friends.

Oh, if you ever needed an idea of how laid back Wyoming is, yes, our realtors have often been known to meet the clients in jeans and a baseball cap!

So much for getting anything done today. My DS (6 years) wanted to get a finch out (he loves the finches) so everyone ended up coming out. I now have Pie tucked under my chin (the big baby), Rosie snuggled into my hair and two busy body finches preening my hair. The Java babies look good. I keep checking them. I just hope the parents are feeding them enough, but they never seem hungry when I check them. It's supposed to rain for at least 4 days here. That should fill up the tanks but we don't have a drier so getting washing dry might be fun!
