The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

Been a busy day here. Messed with the chicks. Met Blooie. Had fun. Messed with the chicks. Took a nap. Messed with the chicks. Finally here on BYC!

Here are a few pics of the little ones!

This is one of the Welsummers (Bob, the member I got them from, dabbed their heads with silver)

I "think" this is one of the Legbars

This is the one I named Bobbi after the member I got them from, she's the Sapphire

So there they are, so nice to hear chirps again!

They are precious . I guess Bob painted the Welsummer's head to let you know what was what. Had to look up the Legear - they do look so much like the Welsummers and they sound like a friendly, wonderful pick. Bet ya Bobbi will be a camera hog :) She already knows how to pose for a pic.

I love your brooder - it is awesome.

Great pics - now we see the real Debby - and yes guys, we are almost identical twins

Y'all have really done a great job with the clubhouse.
But I have to ask --- what was the almost lunch?

Blooie - so sorry about the losses
hugs.gif
. I hope the girls are ok, it's such a disappointment for you all. That was quite a storm that must have come thru, glad there was no damage to your home or coop.

JaeG - those babies are so tiny - they look only a little larger than a thumbnail, good luck with them.

Telia - I cannot see a cat in the blue bed, but will take your word for it

I have been taking high doses of an antibiotic for the past 3 evenings and feeling better - but working again today --

Hi sunflour,

It's so nice to have the brooder right here by my desk and hear the little girls singing (I'd forgotten how they sound as babies). They're eating, drinking, bouncing around, flapping their wings, and scratching up the bedding. There's one I'm keeping an eye on...she eats, drinks & poops but doesn't seem as active. Dr. Blooie recommended Nutri-Drench so as soon as TSC opens, it's back to town I go. Sunflour, you're going to love the Welsummers! Such sweet, calm little chicks. The Legbars and Sapphire are busy

The almost lunch? First I was going to take her to the one & only restaurant in my little town but it was packed. So we drove to Rawlins. The second place we were going to stop was full up. The third place would have been ok busy-wise but right before our name was called for seating, her husband called to say his meeting was over. Her husband would have been welcome to join us, but Blooie had the car keys, lol. So...almost had lunch

At least B got the 'grand tour'!

The brooder is actually a pre-made rabbit hutch. It wouldn't be that great for a rabbit but it works well for a brooder. And if something happens to one of the girls, I'll be able to use it as an infirmary.

Sis, glad you're feeling some better...that must have been some nasty stuff to hang on like it did. Try not to work too hard!

Loved the stories behind their furniture.

J, seeing how little those babies are, it's hard to imagine how you'd feed them. Do you use a dropper? I hope they grow well for you, if anyone can do it, you can!

The saga of the "almost" lunch.

Debby met us in Rawlins in front of the Shrine building where Ken and the other Grand Lodge officers were having their meeting. Ken tossed me the car keys because he figured he was supposed to be done around 2 but if I got back too soon I'd at least have the car keys if I wanted to go back out to Debby's and wait or check out some of the shops. He said he'd call me around 1 to let me know how much longer they'd be. We hopped in Debby's car while Ken went inside and she drove me around Rawlins to show me some neat places. Then we headed over for a great visit at the golf course, I got the grand tour with her and Frankenfoot, and then we went over to her house. I met the cat family - Opie is a love but after our initial introduction I didn't see too much of the other guys. Debby gave me my goodie bag - thank you, Debby! - and boxed up two pieces of her Hummingbird cake to send home with us. We sat and talked chicks and chickens and kids and went downstairs to see the brooder and ooh and ahh over the new chicks. (Did you secure that lamp yet, Debby?) We laughed and compared, and shared, and somehow time got away from us and we'd forgotten all about going out for lunch. I didn't know any places to eat there, but I figured she'd guide and I'd buy as a thank you.

So she suggested a little place in Sinclair. Got there and there was a long, long waiting line. Packed inside, some waiting outside. We knew Ken would be calling, so we opted to go into Rawlins and try our luck there. Another little place didn't even have spaces in the parking lot, so we drove past that one. She mentioned a little Chinese place, but after remembering that her eyes swelled up the last time she ate there, we skipped that one too. Finally we ended up at a place called "Bucks." It was busy too, but there was only one couple ahead of us (and several more who came in after us) so she put our name on the list and we sat to wait. They called the folks who were just ahead of us, so we were next. My phone rang. It was Ken and he was done. Totally finished already! Debby said he should come and join us, so I told him where we were. That's when he reminded me that I had the keys. Oh oh.

Well, we drove back to the Shrine and Ken eventually came wandering out of the building with some of the other Grand Lodge officers and their wives. Knowing my Grand Lodge "lady" protocol well, we got out of the car so I could greet my counterparts. Had fun introducing them to Debby, too! Funny, this year's Grand Master's name is Mark. So I introduced him to Debby. Then next year's Grand Master came out and I said, "Hi, Mark." Debby looked at me and said, "Do you call all of 'em Mark?" Only if that's their names, Debby!

We never did get lunch!! After a couple of photos and hugs, Debby headed for home. The guys decided they wanted to get lunch and discuss the candidates they'd interviewed. So we all headed back over to Bucks, and by now the wait for a table for 6 was over 30 minutes. Same with someplace called "Cappys" So there was no lunch for Ken and Diane - I don't know if Debby ever did get lunch - but we did eat the Hummingbird cake to hold us over until we got to Riverton! It was delicious, too!!

Edited: Aaand by the time I got my post finished Debby had already covered it.

Too funny Blooie...we posted about the same time!

Thank you for my goodie bag, I know just the spot for hanging the chalk board egg basket!

Be glad you didn't eat at Cappy's. We went there...once. Since then, we've always referred to it as Crappy's.

If you guys get back this way before October, you can eat at the golf course restaurant. Did I tell you I'm the one to name it? Our restaurant is named "Grill Gone Wild",

Glad you enjoyed the Hummingbird cake!

P.S. So sorry about the Silkies...those little things had such a tough journey to get to Cowley. Guess some of them just weren't strong enough to cope. Hopefully, the rest are all hale & hearty!

"Grill Gone Wild" must be right...it has the BYC seal of approval (courtesy of sour and Blooie)!

I got up at 4.30am to feed the babies and was relieved to see them both still alive and kicking. I am using a plastic fork which I've snapped all but one tine off and they suck a drop of formula off the end. One latches on like a little bulldog! That was the smallest, safest thing I could think of to use.

Loved the saga of your almost lunch. And the name of your restaurant sounds perfect. Hope your little chick perks up.
