The NFC B-Day Chat Thread

You have had too many losses. It will take a long time for the new dog to be trained and get old enough to help - and there's a possibility he may not protect them but be an additional threat. Do you think it's time to get a protected run started?

Thanks for the info, I will never again get a drink from one of those machines :sick
The hoses are clean, the machine looks like new, sparkling clean. So the gunk has to be on the outside of the inner drum and in the outer drum. Will know later today:)

:love
Hi Sunflour! Between the two coops there's plenty of space with a small run in between but when they have free ranged for so long that will never be enough. I have no option other then to keep them locked up. I have no doubt Hattie would be a threat the way she chases them. Good luck with that machine!

I know what you mean, my flock have never free ranged so they don't miss it.
Hope you have no more losses.

Got the washer apart...OMG the muck :sick . Yep, we found the Blair's Witches Den........ So disgusting what one cannot see without exploration. IMG_0715.jpg

I was too grossed out to even take a pic of what was below this baby. Picture the swamp thing - liquidy black gooey stuff. We had planned to clean it, but I had visions of black mold illnesses and had DH just put it all back together and have a new washer to be delivered tomorrow :barnie. And will toss the Downy - I think it's the culprit.

On a brighter note...we are letting our newbies and oldies mix all day and things are going very well. Lillie AKA bully only showed out once all day today. Debby ( the chicken, not NFL) is pushing the progress....she likes to get on top of the 5 foot divider fence and jump in with the elders. She is a fearless leader like her namesake :celebrate

I believe that on the Downy...I used to use Downy but it always plugged up and I'd have to clean it. I use dryer sheets in the winter and tide pods or liquid tide with the Downy in it in the summer. I wash most everything in hot water to help cut the crud as my guys clothes get dirty!! Don't forget to post a picture of your new machine:celebrate

Yikes! I don't blame you for not wanting to tackle that cleaning job! Hope you like your new machine. And I'm glad the integration is going so well. They are such pretty girls.

Hey everyone! I finally hunted this thread down. How is everyone? Hopefully do well and thriving. :fl

Glad you finally found us again! I'm hand rearing birds once more. It's tiring (I'm a little bit sleep deprived) but they are all so adorable. It started with my crazy Java finch who squashed two babies and nipped toes off a third (we did have a thunderstorm which is unusual for us so not sure if that's what made her do it). So I took her two remaining babies and have been hand rearing them.

Here's my latest little project, a baby Bourke who is 4 days old and has just started opening his eyes today:
little tiddler.jpg

His two siblings out in the aviary hatched three days before him. We were in for a cold snap (we had some serious frosts) and I knew if I left his egg out there in the nest it would die, so I stuck it in the incubator. Unfortunately the other late egg died despite me putting it in the incubator as well, but this little one is full of life and eats like a horse!

Good morning!

Sunflour, glad to hear the integration is going well! Did I tell you yet, I LOVE having a chicken named after me  That's awesome! Ooh, that yuck in the machine :sick Hope your new one is trouble-free.

Nicky! Yeah, you found us! How have you been? Done any artwork lately?

J, your newest little one is so adorable :love Glad he's doing well for you, a healthy appetite is a good sign.

DMC, I'm still dreaming of those pies you baked the other day and shared a photo of on the baking thread :drool

I have 2 employees coming in today so I'm hoping to take off later and do something with my son...maybe visit a nearby fort or museum. We'll see how things pan out.

Have a great day everyone, happy Saturday!

I wash most everything in hot water

I wash mostly in cold water and I failed to use the built in sterilize/clean out cycle until it was too late.
But I did find a new one on sale 25% off and will make sure to run cleaning cycles this time.
