And speaking of chickenpox...

Shoot, yesterday is a lifetime for me! Good morning, gang! Up early and ready to start the day. Um, yeah. Got my oranges done yesterday so it's nice to be able to just open the top and grab a pre-peeled half, and I think I'll make some scrambled (store bought) eggs and a little slice of ham, and wash it down with a Coke. Let's see if that sets Mr. Fitbit into a frenzy!

You pre-peel your oranges B? Never thought to do that.

It's a process I do, Debby, and I can have a bowlful of oranges prepped in less time than it takes to actually peel one. That's a fact - Ken and I tested it once. He peeled, I did it my way. I had 6 oranges done and in their little bowl before he finished peeling. This time of year, oranges are such a bonus extra snack since it's cold and flu season. I don't know if all the hype about extra vitamin C is myth or fact - wish experts could make up their minds - but I do know that a bite of sunshine is awfully nice. But I can't eat a whole orange anyway. I might feel like an orange for a quick energy boost, but immediately knowing that I'd have to stand there and peel one, then try to peel off as much of that white membrane as I can dampens that craving real quick. Having a bowl of pre-prepped orange halves in the fridge makes it so easy - grab the bowl, take out half an orange, and enjoy it.

Tell us more about your process:caf

I took pictures last time I did it. We like to get Cara Cara oranges when they are available at Costco - a big bag because doing them this way they actually get eaten instead of just sitting in the bag. They are a reddish color and sweet as all get-out. I usually do 6-8 at a time. Here ya go, and I hope they're in order. I'm going to put them up full size instead of thumbnail because it's easier for me to caption them that way. I'm old, and need to see what I'm doing.

Cut the oranges in half.

Use a grapefruit knife with a strongly curved blade and run it around the orange.

After you get all the way around, gently lift. The orange half will pop right out. Sometimes I have move and wiggle the blade a little bit to sever the blossom and stem ends, but rarely.

See? A perfect little orange half with no effort.

One orange, prepped and ready to eat!

In no time at all I have a bowlful of oranges to snack on whenever I want.

Got this little grapefruit knife at Walmart many years ago. Because the blade is so strongly curved, it is my favorite one to use.

See? Easy peasy!! I discovered this over Christmas a couple of years ago when I was making Orange Sweet Potato Cups. My family loves them, but "remove the pulp from the orange halves" left me with a big mess and nothing usable but the shells. So I tried this to get the orange "meat" out, and we have been doing it ever since.
