The wildlife & game commission here won't tell anyone there is not a type of wildlife, if someone claims to have spotted something. Years ago, there was a tiny area near here, that people claimed to have seen a bear. Officials never claimed they didn't, just that is was not common. Possibly one that escaped from a small zoo, or circus. Fast forward 30 years, and now we are holding bear hunts here.
Florida, for many years, has been the winter home to many circus, and carnival type show people. We are also home to plenty of zoos, and other wildlife parks, like Busch Gardens. Over the years, various animals have escaped, and not all were recaptured. Back then, only a few bigger cities were very populated. There were huge tracts of natural forests, and untouched land. There were farmers sprinkled around here, and there, but outside the big cities, it was not densely populated, so some of the escaped animals easily evaded being recaptured. When there was just one, and it was not considered a threat to people, they figured it could not breed, and populate, so they would let it be.
Proof mountain lions are here !!I find it crazy that no one tends to believe people when they say these stories, especially the fish & game people. They all just dismiss these claims so fast. You would think they would research it a bit instead of being so quick to dismiss them or make people feel crazy. You would think someone had reported a Bigfoot sighting with the way they treat these people! LOL
Periodically we get mountain lion sightings, always with the same explanation- none in the Eastern US, probably a bobcat, lynx or coyote. In Vermont, mountain Lions we’re called “catamounts,” and they are the team names at the university.
I don’t think coyotes look like cats.
They are in TN for sure, my neighbor saw one. And it was shot nearby while terrorizing horses.
