The Old Folks Home

I agree that January went by fast. Maybe because I was sick during a lot of it.

We have all these theme parks around us. The kids have never been to any of them. I am wanting to do a few things that will make good memories. I have been talking about saving up enough for the family to go spend a day at Disney. It's about a 1.5 hour drive from us. It used to be semi-reasonable for residents to go spend a day there. Not anymore. Another thing that has changed, is food prices. Yes, they have restaurants that are expensive, but the normal fare was pretty reasonable. That has all changed.

I opened a can of worms. I saw an ad on tv for the Monster Truck Rally coming to the local stadium. I mentioned to Dh that he should check at work, and see if they had free passes, or discount coupons. It would be nice for him to take his grandson to the Monster Truck Rally. Usually for events like this, they give some free passes, or discounts at his job, so they get in free, or with a huge discount. Nope, there were no tickets, BUT he went online, and bought them. Let's just say he paid close to $200.00 for tickets, and pit passes. Wow!

Then I caught the pair of them conspiring, when Dh announced that so far, it was going to cost an additional $450.00. I had a minor explosion. Well, they had to get jackets, and a few other things, right? NO! We don't have that kind of money. I limited Dh to $150.00 for food and drinks. Will he listen, and keep the spending down? I doubt it. Hopefully, he'll keep it down a bit though.

Which is why you still have money to buy food!
Oh dang, I just read the rest of your post :th
Good luck. Maybe DH can get a second job to pay for the trip to the rally.

Cupman- Don't get me wrong, I love kids, and I join in with some of the silly threads for fun (RIGHT, Bunnylady?

) I just wanted a place to come for something different. Please feel free to join us "old folks" here if you are looking for mature discussions. I can tell from your post that you are quite capable of that!

I have the same issue when we take a vacation. I have to find someone to "birdy sit" and though I have wonderful neighbors who help, I realize it is alot to ask. This summer, I rehomed 24 birds in the two weeks prior to vacation to make it easier for the sitter. I gave away 24 keets that I would have loved to have kept. It was just too much, in my opinion, to ask of a non-bird person.
Relating exponentially with you. We're seeking property (a.k.a. a larger farm). It seems whenever we want to go some where spur of the moment, our obligations to the flocks and critters overshadows it. Gotta' find a peaceful balance soon... very soon.

My DIL thinks my grandkids should go to Disney for their first haircuts and every birthday! They have a limited income and 4 kids. It's ridiculous. I think once a year is plenty.
And just why is getting one first haircut at Disney a reasonable thing? I didn't even know you could get your hair cut there. OK I just looked. Surprisingly they aren't gouging your wallet for the experience, of course the parking and entry fees will clear your wallet rapidly.

And I think once a year is more than reasonable. I grew up 13 miles from Disneyland, it opened less than a year before I was born. We didn't go every year.

You might want to notice that the referenced post was made nearly 8 years ago. Wisher hasn't been visiting much and the person to who she replied hasn't been seen for nearly 5 years.
