The Old Folks Home

Today is windy with a chance of storm blowing in. I need to go up to Santa Fe to hit a punch list of items, but a slew of showings is scheduled. The market has an uptick as folks are investing in real estate. And, despite the Covid-19 warnings, the realtors are kept busy even at a social distance. So perhaps tomorrow I'll venture up.

In the meantime I need to scrub and plug in an incubator for the second wave of eggs. It's "Set all the eggs!" day for the Easter Hatch-a-long.
Yes! Today is chicken and other 21 day poultry set day

I see you lurking there!

Okay, lets start a discussion. I have 45 or so chickens and three guineas. I want everything else I see, goats, geese, llamas, donkeys. I am conflicted between my love of my animals and the concessions my family has to make for me to have them. There is the time I must devote to them, the money I spend that could be put elsewhere and the emotional attachment I develope. Is there anyone else who worries that they are not being fair to the rest of the clan?
Labor of love. Nice to know you can always find a good home for them on this sight if you decide to give up. Me im the opposite never had any kids and live out here in the middle of nowhere. Having health problems and now i finally have the perfect setup after 11 years and im afraid ill have to give it up cuz its getting harder and harder to go out there in weather. It would kill me to have that beautiful house sitting empty. But i dont ever wanna move. Its the dream and i can finally live for little or no money because of solar power. No property taxes when 63 .yeah one advantage of old age. Im considering turning upstairs attic into small apartment since i cant make it up the stairs on bad days anyway. I figure there would be someone either old or young who would love to llive in this beautiful place with animals. Consider reducing your floclk. It makes big difference and birds become so bonded with you. Thats what i am gonnna do. Only four little ones.this year. Me and the rest off the flock gonna grow old together. And i decided if i do have to move i am taking my chicken with me.there is nothing like the joy of. Having a house bird.

It sounds like an ideal place!

wisher --
When the critter numbers start getting up there, I remind my DH that I could have far, far more expensive habits. (beauty parlor, casino, shopping, shoes, etc.). We're lucky that the chickens tend to pay for themselves with egg sales, hatching eggs and chicks.

That being said, Hubby has turned into a dog lover extraordinaire. We're one big happy pack!

We have a high percentage of seniors in our community, about 30+%. The grocery stores have set up special senior hours -- usually the first hour of opening @ 7:00 a.m. -- to accommodate their needs. Sadly, a lot of the stores have no eggs. Even more sad is that local chicken owners are charging double what they usually do for a dozen eggs. Not me! Karma is karma, after all. Making deliveries to my shut-in friends and checking on their welfare from a social distance.

Many of my friends are going stir-crazy. To create a distraction I've started an on-line art gallery where each day folks are encouraged to post a picture of something that brings them joy -- painting, sculpture, ceramics -- and post a little story about it if they have one. It's nice to open up your in-box and not have doom & gloom.
