Woodland is close to the break between the Coast Range Mountains and the Santa Cruz Mountains. We actually get an off shore Ocean wind for a lot of the Summer called the Delta Breeze. The lows you see are because of that Breeze. North of us and south of us does not get that so the record and average temperatures are higher.

I grew up in Red Bluff California and the Record high for Red Bluff does not fit on the Chart! 121.9 in 1976! The chart says 121 but drops it below the 119 that fits.

I lived there then and it was terrible. We had 7 of our chickens blow up....Quite sad.
I've only lost one bird to heat. It was a Welsummer in that terrible summer we had a couple years ago.
I've never lost one to cold.

Ron, I hope the weather shifts and you guys finally get some real precipitation.
That shift would probably give us some warmer weather too.

Wow! It really can make a huge difference just a stone's throw away. I'm actually about an hour west of KCMO, and I pulled up our chart- that one looked a bit tame to me...here's mine:

Ah, yes. The lows are so much fun. -23˚ when the pipes burst and people have icicles of water going down their walls...remind me why I stay here? WE had some of that recently and a friend had massive damage to a home she's trying to sell. Awful.

Quote: I'd be happy if it never dipped below 70˚!!

I'm emailing that flock buyer now. I would love to have some, and I can drive to Oklahoma! I've done it many times to get to Heirloom Orpingtons to get Marc Sacre's stock (radirevo).

STOP IT!!! YOU KNOW I CAN'T SAY NO!! MUST RESIST...no more breeds....I let my Barnies go once before....argh.....

and I hate slugs. Yesterday was our anniversary, 12 years, and what an adventure it has been. We did not go out to celebrate. I was not up to dealing with other people. Instead we stayed in, rented Riddick and gorged on fast food (prolly why I'm feeling so icky this morning). Then we shared a bottle of wine and caught the last half of the Houston/OKC game. He got me a new chipper!!!!!! so I can make my own mulch for the garden this year...yay!!!!!!
Hope you are all having a good friday.

Yeesh! I need more coffee.

I used to like the contrast even though I always hated the heat. Now, with chickens again, I'm not fond of the extreme lows.
I long to live on the side of a volcano in the tropics. No heating or AC necessary. Big savings right there, and the views!!!
I also ask why I'm still living here.

Our State Governor has or will declare a drought for California. Water controls will go into effect. with water reducing measures.

Now rain until at least February for us. We are also under a Wild fire alert.

We had drought for a long time, and while the water table still hasn't recovered, we're out of danger on top of the earth...mostly. When these winds kick up it's always dangerous. Still, I wouldn't want to be back in Phoenix or out in CA in dry times. I hope you get rain!

I pray that you guys get some real rain soon! I saw on the news the forest fire in Glendora. That was awful!

One of my favorite places in the world is Bedugul in Bali Indonesia. 2000 feet above sea level. Days 75-84 Nights 68-77. when I have more money than God, that is where I will live.
