The Old Folks Home

micro, Years ago, I had front loader, before they became popular. It broke down, and I called Sears to repair it. They told me the part it needed, and it would take 2 weeks for the part to arrive. 2 and a half weeks later, they had not come to fix the washer, claiming the part had not yet arrived. It would be another week.

In today's age, unless it was coming on a slow boat from China, there is no way it should take 3 weeks for the part to arrive. I asked where it was coming from. Miami. I was dumbfounded. I asked the person to explain to me, how it could possibly take 3 weeks to get a part from Miami, to Tampa. Were they sending by sick carrier pigeon? Were they aware I could WALK to Miami, and back in less than 3 weeks? Needless to say, I canceled their service. I contacted the local Marcon Supply, went and picked up the part, and put it in the same day.

I ordered the belt online Tuesday nite and it was here by noon today--no extra shipping charge. Son in law fixed it just fine

Our poor old washer was over 30 years old and slowly loosing power for about 18 months. DH kept tightening belts and doing what he could but when I announced that I could get the clothes cleaner if I took them down to the pond and beat them with a rock we knew it was time.

DH tore into it one more time and discovered that the motor was shot and while working, was really doing it with as little power as possible.

We bought a new machine from Home Depot. 10 days to deliver from 20 miles away? Yeah, I feel your pain.

When I moved into this house last year, I got my fridge and stove from Sears. I already had the LP tank and all they had to do was deliver the appliances, hook up the gas stove to get me going. Got the fridge the next day, Thank God... waited two more weeks for the gas stove, and two trips from the LP provider to hook up the stove and get it going.. The second guy out was supposed to be the 'expert' and couldn't figure out the right setting for the stove.. I showed him the manual and told him... turn it ALL THE WAY TO THE RIGHT.. he did.. took him over an hour and the service calls were ridiculously expensive.

DH and I were talking about that this morning. There were things I was hoping to get once I was retired, two of those things being goats and a horse. Three being chickens. I'm realistic though. My joints are not going to get better and I am not going to get stronger as I age. I'm fighting a battle to keep things level and even so the scale is tipping against me. So I know the first two are out of the question. Chickens though? I can do my chickens without too much pain or fatigue. Without shame I admit that not only do I talk to them, but I cuddle them, sing to them, pet them and spoil them.

My husband knows how important they are to me and helps me whenever I need it.

Fate and my health said no horse, no goats, but you can have all the useless roosters and freeloading hens you want.

I can live with that!
I got mini goats. They are all still smaller than my small German shepherd and I can lift any of them.

It's not the lifting, Cap. Doc has given me the okay to lift 50 pound feed bags as long as I do not carry them too far or hold them for too long and use good body mechanics.

Yesterday while working on the back yard fence, I had to do a lot of kneeling and getting up in while cable tying and wiring things together. I almost didn't make it back up after about the second time of kneeling. My knees have been getting progressively weaker this summer, I suspect from my back problems and the degenerative disc disease.

Realistically I know that I can't take on any more responsibilities with animals. Seriously, I am okay with that. I have a wonderful husband, 7 dogs that keep me active, 5 cats, one of them lying on my lap at that moment, and (mumble mumble mumble-something) totally useless chickens who are eating like teenagers and not laying any legs at the moment. Life is good and I am blessed!

When I work on fence I have a short chair, which I can sit on and work. No kneeling.

Cap, trust me, I have tried that. I still have trouble rising. I bend at the waist very well and have tried using a bucket seat. I still have to have something nearby that I can use to pull myself upright.

Physical therapy might help but with the Covid it's not going to happen any time soon.

I don't kneel, too hard to get back up. I bend over for as long as I can endure it. The knees have plagued me now and then since I was 20 something and showing Cockers. Couldn't get back up. My boyfriend(HA!) decided I was just lazy. :rant

Yeah right. I loved shoveling pea gravel and it took three wheelbarrow loads to refill each run (7 of them). Loved shoveling snow. I think because of something Sour mentioned(when he cuts grass) . He could see the effects of his effort. Yep that's what motivates me. I have to see results.
