The Old Folks Home

I quit lying a few years ago when my broken arm was swabbed for bomb making chemicals, and my shoes went into the scanner and no one had the time to help me get my shoes back on ( needed tying) with one hand. I ran to next flight with shoes in my hand. NEVER AGAIN. Security is overkill here.

BIL flies frequently and has a high security clearance--and just walks on. Hmmmmmm . . .

I fly occaisionally LOL

I hate flying but I have to do it to get to the amazing places this world has to offer.

I would rather be safe than not. I will drop trou if thats what it took. I lost my dignity years ago (when I had to lift my dress on an operating room table for surgery in a room full of nurses I know, then woke up with a catheter) so I am not offended by a pat down.

I have learnt over the years what to take and what not to take on board planes. I have had zip ties confiscated as well as duct tape. My last trip I had my hands swabbed for bomb residue.

I fly in shorts or light sweat pants and crocs. I wear a T shirt and a sweater. Everythying except my ID and boarding pass are in my satchell well before I get to the inspectors.

Its tough but with some planning, TSA is a breeze.

It is snowing here I hope it snows enough to make some snow ice cream my DH wants some badly.

Right now it is just a light dusting, but we are suppose to get between 1-3". I do love the snow for short periods!

Snow ice cream?? Man, I haven't heard of that in years. Did that as a kid. We wouldn't dare eat our snow our here, would we DiDi? Our air is so bad when it hasn't snowed for a while, so we are happy when we get a good snow fall .. to clean all of that gunk out of the air. We tell our kids..DON'T eat the snow!!!

Chickadoodles You call THAT snow????

We(Chicago suburb) call that dandruff

That's what I was thinking. But, she did say..hoping for more snow. Here's what we get when we get a good snow fall. Haven't had it this year, a bit worried about drought come summer if it doesn't start snowing or raining.

Back when I was a kid and we had to walk 15 miles in blinding snow to school with barbed wire wrapped around our sneakers for traction...

Oh hang on a minute. I was never crazy enough to live in such conditions!

God bless you crazy chicken people that live in the white stuff. I just cant imagine.

My father was born and raised in Michigan. He'd never even heard of snow cream until we moved to North Carolina. His reaction: "where I come from, you throw snow, you dig snow, you might even curse it, but you sure don't eat it!

Yeah, I'm back, safe, warm and dry. Thanks, guys.

My Grand father was born in Michigan too!

That is why we live in California! He hated the snow.

I can get ice cream at WalMart....

We're getting sleet - about 1/2 inch of accumulation so far. Terrific - teensy, tiny icy ball bearings, and I have to drive on them. Pray for me, y'all!
absolutely!!! prayer done! Up here we always say give me 2 feet of snow over an inch of ice any day!

I was raised in Michigan too. Had my dreams of moving a little south or maybe west, even traveled around a bit. then I marry this crazy deer hunter with a hunting shack on a tract of northwoods and where do I wind up??? retired in Northern Wisconsin!!!

Quote: Ron, you are sweet!!

Yup, I love this thread--

thanks for the great replies about the turkeys. I do believe I may need to accidentally stumble across a pair this spring.....

I eat the eggs I don't sell or hatch. Harder to break than a chicken egg, but tastes the same. I keep my hens cooped-- no hunting down eggs here !!

Quote: After you were pounced on , seemed like the following replies were a little more thoughtful. It has happened to me to on other threads-- just ask Ron, lol, and I took a beating on the heritage thread too, by Bob, and I learned to be a noobie, and don't try to explain myself, just listen, and eventually it worked itself out. I had difficulty with the line breeding using a trio model, but I finally got the peice I was looking for in just the last few weeks. The birds are so line bred that they will get all mixed up are not compatable with other lines. Not the same with the BUckeyes. THat breed can handle rotational breeding apparently.

Battening down the hatches and waiting for the big ice/snow storm heading our way!! Got a nice naked cockerel to cook up for some chicken and dumplings. DH is having crazy days trying to things all prepared. 2 generators, one for us and one for his folks. His dad is on 02...and of course power outages are to be expected if this thing hits like they say it will. He is also getting our propane tanks all filled. We have to heat with propane heaters and 2 window unit heat pumps. Neither are very reliable when the temps drop too much. Dang winter time drama

Keep safe!!

Quote: My fear is that this year will be the begining of typical. THe number of over 100 days has been increasing in my neck of the woods; and the temps at 10-15 in the morning has been increasing too. Might need to move the horses in the house for warmth!! I remeber an old house in Bangor Maine that had the barn under the house-- now I get it!! lol
Back in '87 I spent the last 6 months of the year in Caribou. Seen several houses on top of barns built into hilltops. I always thought that was a risky way to have/keep critters, but understand the idea of a warm floor in winter!

I'm like you. Although I just wear boots to fly in. easy on and easy off. I have to fly to and from work every month and it's nice going out of a small airport (I leave out of Montgoermy, AL)they don't harras you like the bigger ones do. Heck, sometimes I get my bags checked free when I use my militarty id. I get scanned all the time and pulled to the side for extra screening. something about me must scream terrorist at the Charlotte, NC airport. it used to offend me but now I almost expect it and therefore plan extra time for it.
