The Old Folks Home

I'm just a BMI point off being surgery-eligible for my knees.
1 point? I'll not get personal about your numbers but my step sister got a knee replaced about a year ago. 5'9" and if she isn't well over 300 pounds I'd be surprised. She is classified as "morbidly obese".

Really? Never heard of such a person!
Keep looking!

Apparently in NM they adhere to insurance guidelines, so they are -- my ortho folks -- sticklers about weight limits. I got some yada yada about success rates and health risks. It would not hurt for me to lose some excess poundage, but it would be easier to do if I had mobility. A stupid cycle, to be sure.
I hear you!

I had a similar situation at 12 years old when I had chronic ear infections and a low grade fever for a year or so. When I went in for the operation to fix the problem, I was almost not allowed the surgery due to a low fever. The Surgeon said that I had to have the Surgery to get rid of the fever and had them make an exception.
