The Old Folks Home

I've got inquires out for local auctions for poultry. I'd like to raise pullets for auction for local folks who don't have the time or facilities for raising chicks.
You will lose money raising chickens for others. Feed is expensive and auctions take a percentage of your sales. Plus driving there costs gas.

Depends on how it's done. If you free range, get old food from green grocers and such (I have a friend who does that for her pigs) and if you're going to be raising them anyway (as I am with my breeding project) then why not make a little extra?

Although if I sell chickens it will be either off the farm or farmers markets rather than an auction.

Auction is only 5 miles or so from the house. There I can hopefully meet enough people to get more word of mouth advertising for direct sales at the farm. I know an auction can be a dumping ground. I would never take a sick chicken for someone else to cull.

I worry more about bringing home diseases for the animals to contract.
