The Old Folks Home

Tomorrow I am to start hard chemo. I'm not sure it will happen tomorrow, but it won't be long, if it gets delayed. We're debating about which chemo med to start me one. The one we initially chose, may not be the best fit. The doctor wanted me to start a bit sooner, but I wanted to be able to enjoy this Christmas without all the side effects, and with hair.

My mother-in-law has redeemed herself with me, just a tiny hair.

Yesterday morning, Dh leaned back pretty far in his desk chair. The legs collapsed, and he fell backwards, hitting the upper part of his body on the wall behind the chair, but the impact caused the chair to move forward some, and lay flat on the floor. There was Dh, back of the chair on the floor, him in the chair flailing like an upside down turtle. The back of the arms kept the chair from turning over, so he was trapped. It was hilarious. He did hit his shoulders, and head on the wall, so laughter would not have been appropriate at the time, but it sure was hard to keep from laughing, as we watch his arms, and legs flailing about, trying to get out of the chair.

We helped him up, and inspected the chair. When he leaned back, he put all his weight on two of the bottom support arms, with the rollers, and they broke off. He was totally upset about the fall, but he was even more upset because his desk chair was broken. I had stepped outside, and he began bringing pieces of his chair out to the garbage. In passing, he claimed I gave him the chair so it would kill him. He began telling everyone that, repeatedly. Yes, I had tried to kill him.

I reminded him that he had gained quite a bit of weight, and it was his own fat a$$, leaning too far back, that caused it. Nope, that didn't stop him from saying I had tried to kill him. Finally I'd had enough. I looked him square in the eye, and let him know that if I really wanted to kill him, I could have easily found a quicker, and surer way to do it, than wait 14 years for a chair to break.

He was talking to his mother, and telling her I tried to kill him. She informed him that I was off the hook. I didn't give him that desk chair. Several years ago, when his uncle died, he got his uncle's desk, and desk chair. The chair that broke was the one he got from his uncle. It was his uncle that tried to kill him, posthumously. Talk about a last laugh!

Sooooo, because my mother-in-law remembered that, and told him I was off the hook for trying to kill him, she has redeemed herself ever so slightly with me.

We do artificial thanks to rampaging allergies. Pretty tree, Cap! One of those things that size really doesn't matter.

Nothing as fancy as prime rib here. Used to do that every Christmas. Bought the roast fresh from the local meat processor. Of course we were younger then and our cholesterol levels were easier to control.

Now it's slow roasted top end sirloin and roast turkey breast.

Eat a slice of that prime rib for us, @Sequel!

Hope everyone has had a great day!
Oh I did! It was the Choice grade so not as fatty as a prime but still tender and juicy and lovely. And I have some nice ribs for my stockpot!

A belated Merry Christmas to all! My computer's in our guest room/office which has been inhabited by a 3 year old and/or 4 month old grandchild taking naps at different times, plus their parents at night, so no access...too busy with our Burbank daughter's family visiting anyway. (They flew in on Dec. 21.)

Our Christmas was made wonderful by their stay with us, and by the younger daughter and her boyfriend announcing their engagement last night after Christmas dinner -- we're so happy! He's a great guy and they're very good for each other. Lots of good food, baby-holding, playing with my grandson and taking him out to feed & pet the chickens (well, the tolerant ones 😉 ). The house is SOOOO quiet now with everyone gone home...we're happily worn out, and the dogs are sleeping like fur rugs after all that play and attention.

Lots of good leftovers so we won't be cooking for the next few days! 😁 By the time we recover and the house is back in order, it'll be New Year's; just staying home for that with a bottle of bubbly 🥳 and streaming some movies.
