The Old Folks Home

So my babies turned six weeks old Thursday and we FINALLY finished their coop yesterday! Wisher told me in her infinite chicken wisdom that a coop takes much longer to build than you might think and to have it ready before you get chicks. Oh how correct she was! My poor babies were getting way too crowded in their brooder. Who wants to see happy chicks? I knew you would!

Grrrr it won't let me upload my happy chicken photos from my phone right now, so I'll try later, but they are so happy, scratching and running and flapping of the wingses!

Yay! I just finished my chicken coop too. Made out of my own head... a few pallets, some leftover plywood, a spare bit of chicken wire and voila!
Ok so it's a little goofy but my gals LOVE it and it's safe and secure! The only problem is the neighbor dog keeps barking at the coop haha I didn't mean for it to be higher than the fence but well... that's how it turns out when you don't measure for pitch of roof. oopsiies

That's great! We made the coop/run combo from some cemented-in posts that were there from a previous chicken coop years ago. Pretty much starting from scratch, but at least there was some 2x4 fencing on the posts already so we added wire a few more 4x4 posts, then a tin roof, then 2x4 fencing the rest of the way up, then chicken wire on top of that. The back is enclosed all the way across and 4' in, courtesy of Wisher1000's design, with nest boxes sheltered back there, secured flaps at the back to get eggs. A nice door and also tin coming up the sides and down into the ground, which meets 18" of concrete going into the ground, all the way around. It took forever and a lot of man hours, lots of friends and family helping, but it's done! I'm so happy with it!

Heel low:

Usually my topics are a bit on the bright and flaky sides--more joy than seriousness...the fun stuff.

I seriously recommend you have a chat, or at the least check the postings, of either (first) Dawg53 or casportpony. They are both very knowledgeable about poultry and drugs and their effects and were a tremendous help to me when I wound up battling respiratory issues. They both are regularly helping all kinds of folks over in the emergencies forum.

Thank you...
